Proposal to continue lane separation and vehicle flow separation on 8 highway sections

On the morning of September 20, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that they had just sent a document requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to continue dividing lanes and traffic flows on 8 sections of 4-lane highways with continuous emergency stops, with a maximum speed of 100 - 120km/h.

Specifically, the sections and routes include: Da Nang - Quang Ngai (Km 0 - Km 131+500); Hai Phong - Mong Cai (Km 0 - Km 175); Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay (Km 4 - Km 54+983); Phan Thiet - Dau Giay (Km 0 - Km 99); Cau Gie - Cao Bo (Km 211+260 - Km 259+200); Bac Giang - Lang Son (Km 45+100 - Km 109+660); Hanoi - Lao Cai (Km 0+400 - Km 123); Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong (Km 10 - Km 49+800).

The lane division of vehicles on these routes is as follows: Lane 1 (next to the median strip) will have a maximum speed of 120km/h, a minimum speed of 80km/h or a maximum of 100km/h, a minimum of 80km/h for trucks, trucks under 7.5 tons, and passenger cars under 30 seats. Lane 2 (next to the emergency lane) has a maximum speed of 100km/h, a minimum speed of 60km/h for mixed vehicles. Trucks from 7.5 tons and up, and passenger cars with over 30 seats travel in this lane.

The Traffic Police Department also proposed to organize lane separation at toll stations, separate fixed lanes for priority vehicles, cars, buses, trucks... in accordance with the lane separation on the route. At the same time, add road signs to implement lane separation as above and immediately fix some existing problems and unreasonable traffic organization.

According to the Traffic Police Department, the proposal is based on the initial pilot results on the Phap Van - Cau Gie and Hanoi - Hai Phong expressways, which have shown clear effectiveness, creating more open lanes, receiving the support of the people and reducing traffic accidents.

Since September 18, the Traffic Police Department has been propagating and instructing drivers participating in traffic on these highways to direct trucks on passenger cars with 29 seats and trucks with 7.5 tons or more to go into the right lane in the direction of the vehicle (the lane with lower speed); the remaining lane, close to the median strip, will be reserved for cars, trucks under 7.5 tons and passenger cars under 29 seats, to prevent slow-moving vehicles from sticking to the left lane, causing traffic congestion and reducing the efficiency of road exploitation.
