Proposal to hold high school graduation exams three weeks earlier: "The Ministry of Education and Training will consider it."

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí19/03/2025

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Regarding the proposal to hold the 2025 high school graduation exam three weeks earlier than scheduled, a representative from the Ministry of Education and Training stated that this is a major issue and the Ministry will consider it carefully before making a decision.

Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training , recently stated this.

According to Mr. Ha, the preparation for the high school graduation exam is decentralized to the local level. Currently, the Ministry has no official information regarding proposals from the localities.

However, in general, if a relocation is necessary, there will be an option that minimizes the impact on the entire system. This is a major issue and will be carefully considered before a decision is made.

According to Mr. Ha, this is a national-level exam, taking place simultaneously in all 63 provinces and cities, so there is no question of each locality organizing a high school graduation exam at a different time.

If the planned exam schedule is to be shifted, it will be a nationwide shift, and careful research and calculations must be made to minimize the impact on the system and students.

Ahead of the planned merger of several provinces and cities in the near future, some candidates have expressed concerns about whether this will change the preferential policies in university admissions or whether regional priority points will be added.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), affirmed that all regional and target group priority points and priority options are still being applied according to the regulations of previous years.

Responding to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper this morning (March 19), a leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that the department has not yet received a response from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the proposal to postpone the high school graduation exam, which was put forward yesterday.

Previously, on March 18th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting adjustments to the exam schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam.

In the proposal document, the Department of Education and Training stated that in the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi will have nearly 130,000 students taking the high school graduation exam. The number of students taking the high school graduation exam accounts for approximately 1/10 of the national total.

This is also the first year that high school students are taking the high school graduation exam under the 2018 General Education Program, and it is also the year that regulations related to student enrollment, tutoring, and supplementary classes are being applied.

With the largest number of students in the country and the large scale of the exam, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has requested the Ministry of Education and Training to adjust the exam schedule to an earlier date than the previously announced draft.

Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh also hope that the 2025 high school graduation exam will be moved up by about 3 weeks compared to the original schedule.

Specifically, the Ministry of Education and Training has planned to hold the 2025 high school graduation exam on June 26-27. However, in a document recently sent to the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed adjusting the exam to the period of June 7-10.

The Nghe An Department of Education and Training has also submitted a document proposing to adjust the schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam to June 8, 9, and 10.

The 2025 high school graduation exam will be the first year that students from the 2018 general education program will take the exam. The exam is tentatively scheduled to be held from June 26-29.

According to the previously announced plan, starting from the 2025 high school graduation exam, each candidate will take four subjects: mathematics, literature, and two elective subjects from the remaining subjects (foreign language, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economics and law education, informatics, technology).

The Literature exam will be in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes; the exam consists of two parts: reading comprehension (4 points) and writing (6 points). The remaining subjects will be in multiple-choice format, with Mathematics having a time limit of 90 minutes and the other subjects having a time limit of 50 minutes.
