Northern Electricity urgently restores power after floods

The circulation after storm No. 11 (MATMO) caused widespread heavy rain, causing many localities such as Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Ninh... to be severely affected by flash floods, landslides and inundation, causing many power lines and transformer stations to fail, affecting the power supply.

Given the complex situation, power companies proactively suspended electricity supply to dangerous areas and increased their on-duty personnel to monitor the situation. Once the water receded and safety conditions were ensured, the units promptly restored electricity to customers, aiming for the fastest possible service while ensuring absolute safety.

On the 110kV grid, at Thai Nguyen Power Company (PC Thai Nguyen), the Thinh Dan 110kV substation (2x63MVA) restored transformer T1 at 7:30 PM on October 7, 2025. Currently, the Northern Power Electrical Testing Company Limited (ETC) is continuing testing transformer T2 to bring it into operation soon. The Quang Son Cement 110kV substation also safely energized and began operation at 8:45 PM on the same day, contributing to the stable power supply for the area.

With the medium voltage grid, a total of 100 power lines and branches had to be temporarily suspended from power supply. By the morning of October 8th, 95 lines could not be restored, concentrated in Thai Nguyen (42), Lang Son (23), Bac Ninh (21) and Cao Bang (9). The units have restored 5/100 lines.

Regarding substations, 1,564 are still temporarily without power; of which, Thai Nguyen has 750 substations, Bac Ninh 444 substations, Lang Son 145 substations, and Cao Bang 225 substations. To date, 430 out of 1,994 substations in the entire region have had their power restored.

The entire corporation currently manages 11,763,776 customers; of which 478,473 customers were affected by the floods. As of this morning, electricity has been restored to 46,916 customers, accounting for nearly 9.8%, while 431,557 customers are still temporarily without electricity.

In response to the complex situation, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) mobilized maximum manpower and materials, coordinating closely with local authorities to inspect the scene, handle the incident, and restore power under the safest conditions.

With the motto "safety - speed - efficiency," power companies are implementing restoration measures, determined to bring electricity back to serve the daily lives and production activities of the people as soon as possible.

Bac Ninh Power Company (PC Bac Ninh) has formed a rapid response team of 30 cadres and workers from the area south of the Cau River to support the Yen The Power Management Team (Lang Son) - which suffered heavy damage. Many other power companies have also deployed internal support forces, quickly providing personnel and equipment to flood-affected areas. The spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the electricians in the North is a solid foundation, helping to restore electricity quickly, safely, and effectively, bringing light and peace to the people in the flood-stricken areas as soon as possible.
