Accordingly, Dong Thap province has identified the task of managing and effectively utilizing existing power sources, while expanding new energy sources, as crucial conditions for maintaining sustainable growth and attracting investment. To leverage the province's advantages, Dong Thap has invested in the comprehensive development of energy infrastructure to ensure energy security for production and daily life.
To date, the province has put into operation two wind power projects: Tan Phu Dong 1 Wind Power Plant with a capacity of 100 MW and Tan Phu Dong 2 Wind Power Plant with a capacity of 50 MW. By November 2025, the projected electricity output is approximately 340.538 million kWh, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by about 230,408 tons of CO2. This will contribute to supplying electricity to the national power grid, ensuring energy security, and increasing the proportion of clean energy sources.
Regarding the Tan Thanh Wind Power Plant (100 MW capacity), the People's Committee of Tien Giang province (now the People's Committee of Dong Thap province) issued a Decision approving the investment policy and simultaneously approving the investor in Decision No. 1719/QD-UBND dated June 24, 2025. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in July 2028, and the investor is currently implementing it (preparing a feasibility study report).
Regarding the Tan Thanh 2 Wind Power Plant (100 MW capacity), the People's Committee of Dong Thap province issued document No. 1043/UBND-DTQH dated September 15, 2025, approving in principle the survey and research of the Tan Thanh 2 Wind Power Plant project by Kosy Joint Stock Company; in which, the maximum period for Kosy Joint Stock Company to research the project is 6 months (from September 15, 2025).
Alongside this, the province is strongly encouraging the development of distributed renewable energy. To date, Dong Thap province has 5,500 organizations and individuals installing rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of nearly 267 kWp; the grid-connected output is 214,613.458 kWh, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 145.2 tons of CO2. These projects not only meet the increasing demand for electricity but also align with the province's sustainable development strategy.
In addition, the province has implemented solutions to ensure a safe, stable, and efficient electricity supply for production, business, and daily life of the people. Over the past period, the electricity sector has organized and invested in the construction of 500kV, 220kV, 110kV, medium-voltage, and low-voltage power grids according to approved plans and projects, ensuring sufficient and stable electricity supply for industrial zones, key projects, and serving the production, business, and daily life of the people.
With the aforementioned investments, renovations, and development of power sources and grids, in 2025, Dong Thap Power Company will ensure sufficient, stable, and safe electricity supply to meet the production, business, and daily life needs of the people, contributing to the province's economic development. By October 2025, commercial electricity sales will reach 6,409.23 million kWh, an increase of 5.73% compared to the same period in 2024. Regarding investment attraction in 2025, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province has approved the investment policy and simultaneously approved investors for 15 power projects with a total registered investment capital of approximately VND 6,571.38 billion.
The Provincial People's Committee has issued plans and assigned departments, agencies, and commune-level People's Committees to organize and implement the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency in the province, such as Plan No. 329/KH-UBND dated October 3, 2025, on the implementation of the Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency in Dong Thap province for the period 2020-2030, and Plan No. 213/KH-UBND dated September 4, 2025, on the implementation of Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023, of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving for the period 2023-2025 and subsequent years in Dong Thap province.
Accordingly, the electricity loss rate on the distribution grid by the end of 2025 will be 4.15% (0.23% lower than the 2024 figure of 4.38%). The estimated electricity savings in 2025 will be 185.864 million kWh, reaching 112.44% of the plan (165.307 million kWh), equivalent to a saving of approximately 2.37% of commercial electricity; reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 125,756 tons of CO2, contributing to environmental protection.
Furthermore, the province also focuses on disseminating information to raise awareness and responsibility regarding the position, role, and importance of energy policies and laws, as well as the efficient and effective use of energy within the province. This is actively implemented by provincial departments, agencies, and localities through various forms.
Provincial and local departments and agencies have implemented numerous information campaigns on energy saving, high-tech production models, training, and the transfer of energy-saving equipment, solar power usage, etc., through mass media and various other forms. Simultaneously, they have integrated these campaigns into guidance sessions for farmers on scientific and technological advancements in agricultural production.
By simultaneously expanding power sources, upgrading infrastructure, promoting renewable energy, and controlling demand, Dong Thap is gradually forming an energy system that is both stable and environmentally friendly. Energy security is not only an immediate requirement for production and business, but also a foundation for the locality to attract new investments, develop deep processing industries, high-tech agriculture, and the digital economy. This will be a key factor in helping Dong Thap maintain its growth momentum and move towards a green and sustainable development model in the future.
