What happens when VN-Index lacks information?

Commenting on the stock market trend for next week (December 16-20), Mr. Vo Kim Phung, Head of Analysis Department at BETA Securities Company, said that capital flows are clearly diverging between different sectors. The concentration of capital mainly on a few large-cap stocks is putting strong selling pressure on many small and medium-sized stocks.

"Risks and opportunities coexist, requiring investors to have flexible trading strategies. Focus should be placed on stocks with strong fundamentals, stable businesses, and positive profit prospects. Avoiding the tendency to chase short-term trends will help investors navigate periods of volatility," Mr. Phung stated.

Experts at Pinetree Securities also believe that the VN-Index has experienced its first week of correction after three consecutive weeks of gains. Market liquidity has not improved, and it is likely that the market will continue its consolidation trend within a narrow range in the coming days.

The strong support level for the VN-Index is the 1,250 – 1,255 point range. Notably, the US Federal Reserve's (FED) policy meeting this week will be the focus of the VN-Index amidst a lack of supporting information.

These forecasts were made by securities companies after the VN-Index closed the past trading week at 1,262.57 points, down 7.57 points from the previous week; the HNX Index fell 1.93 points to 227 points.

Stocks like HDB, KDC, EIB, TCB, BVH… contributed to the market's outstanding upward momentum; while those that negatively impacted the market included VCB, VIC, HVM, MSN, LPB…

The downside is that trading liquidity decreased by 12% compared to the previous week; while foreign investors continued their net selling trend of over 1,100 billion VND on the HOSE exchange, focusing on stocks in the VN30 basket such asFPT , MWG, and VRE.

According to observations by reporters from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , contrary to investors' expectations after a booming trading session with a surge in points and liquidity for the VN-Index, the stock market continued to fluctuate sluggishly within a narrow range.

Regarding recent fluctuations in stock sectors, Mr. Tran Hoang Son, Market Strategy Director at VPBank Securities Company, said that, looking at the overall picture, the market trend shows a fairly widespread flow of money rather than concentration in any particular sector.

Insurance is a sector that has performed well. This sector experienced a sharp decline from mid-year and bottomed out in November 2024.

The construction, building materials, chemical, industrial real estate, and logistics sectors are also attracting significant capital inflows. This indicates that the market is showing both upward price signals and strong capital flows, with money not concentrated in any one sector but rather directed towards those with compelling stories and promising prospects for 2025.

"Looking at the cash flow structure, the banking sector remains number one, accounting for nearly 23% of total market liquidity. Liquidity has decreased in the last three weeks due to contraction in the banking sector, but this has spread to several sectors such as securities, real estate, construction, and building materials," Mr. Son said.
