On the afternoon of December 3, U22 Vietnam beat Laos 2-1 in the opening match of Group B of the men's football tournament of the 33rd SEA Games. Nguyen Dinh Bac scored two goals in the 28th and 60th minutes.
Sharing after the match, Dinh Bac said: "The first match was very difficult for the whole team. U22 Laos was very determined and caused many difficulties for U22 Vietnam. They have many players from the Laos national team. However, winning 3 points in this match is a springboard for us to try harder in the following matches."
Against Laos U22, Vietnam U22 conceded a goal in the 33rd minute and the defense was put in danger many times during the match. Dinh Bac admitted the team's shortcomings and promised to do better in the following matches.
"U22 Vietnam dominated the game but missed many opportunities. I think after this match, all of us will learn from our experience and improve our finishing. 8 days later, we will show a different side," Dinh Bac said.
When asked about the possibility of winning the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, Dinh Bac said: "Football is unpredictable, but we come to Thailand with the highest determination, not afraid of any opponent. We will compete with Vietnamese pride, dedicating the best to the country."
Dinh Bac, born in 2004, is a promising striker of Vietnamese football when he joined the national team very early (at the age of 20). That was at the 2023 Asian Cup, he was named by coach Philippe Troussier in the squad to play against Japan and scored 1 goal against the most powerful team in Asia.
In international youth tournaments such as U23 Southeast Asia and U23 Asia qualifiers, Dinh Bac has participated and competed for U23 Vietnam. SEA Games 33 is the first regional sports festival Dinh Bac has attended and he is expected to shine to help U22 Vietnam win the gold medal.
