The US Navy task force consists of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, along with two cruisers, USS Antietam (CG54) and USS Robert Smalls (CG62).
USS Antietam and USS Robert Smalls are both Ticonderoga-class cruisers of the US Navy, commissioned in the late 1980s.
Pictured is a Harpoon anti-ship missile launcher and a Mark 45 gun aft of the USS Robert Smalls.
The Ticonderoga class is the only US surface ship class capable of command and control of air defense, and serves as the central coordinating hub for all air defense operations within carrier strike groups.
Currently, the US Navy has only one class of cruiser, the Ticonderoga, which is responsible for protecting aircraft carrier fleets. The US Navy currently has 22 Ticonderoga-class cruisers in active service.
