Initially, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team aimed to win the Gold Medal at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand when it had a balanced force and had performed impressively in many international tournaments.
The most notable success was the victory over Thailand in the second round of SEA V.League in August. In particular, the outstanding performance of opposite setter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen when she scored 45 points for the home team.
However, at the upcoming SEA Games, Bich Tuyen is absent due to personal reasons and injury, meaning the team will lose a key player. This makes the goal of competing for the gold medal more difficult. In order to reduce psychological pressure and ensure the competitive spirit of the athletes, the sports industry has adjusted the target to Silver Medal.
However, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is still highly appreciated thanks to its balanced force with the service of Thanh Thuy, Bich Thuy (currently playing abroad) and other factors such as Nhu Quynh, Le Thanh Thuy, Khanh Dang, Kim Thanh...
At the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnam is in Group B with Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia. The group is quite favorable for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team to win the top spot.
Meanwhile, group A is the playground of host Thailand (the team that dominated 14 consecutive SEA Games), the Philippines and Singapore.
The women's indoor volleyball event at the 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 10 to 15 at Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.
