Welcoming the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia back to Vietnam.

On the evening of December 10, 2025, at the Binh Hiep International Border Gate (Binh Hiep commune) and the Xa Mat International Border Gate (Tan Bien commune), the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection, and Identification of the Remains of Martyrs of Tay Ninh Province (Provincial Steering Committee 515) held a ceremony to welcome the remains of martyrs and the K70, K71, and K73 Teams back to Vietnam, concluding the first phase of the search and collection of the remains of martyrs who died in Cambodia, stage 25 (dry season 2025-2026).

Overview of the ceremony at Xa Mat International Border Gate, Tan Bien commune

Attending the ceremony at Binh Hiep International Border Gate were Colonel Nguyen Thanh Phong, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Steering Committee 515; attending at Xa Mat International Border Gate were Colonel Nguyen Minh Tan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, and Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515; members of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, along with representatives of the armed forces, departments, agencies, and people from all walks of life in the province.

In accordance with Plan No. 13/KH-BCĐ dated October 22, 2025, of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 on the implementation of the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during various periods of war, phase 25 (dry season 2025-2026), on November 6, 2025, the Provincial Steering Committee 515 organized a send-off ceremony and assigned tasks to the teams searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs who died in Cambodia, phase 1, phase 25 (dry season 2025-2026). Among these tasks, Team K70 surveyed and searched for 95 martyrs' graves in Kampong Cham and Tboung Khmum provinces; Team K71 surveyed and searched for 172 martyrs' graves in Seam Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Otdar Meanchey provinces; Team K73 surveyed and searched for 76 martyrs' graves in Svay Rieng, Battambang, and Pailin provinces.

Teams K70, K71, and K73 completed their mission, returned to the country, and brought the remains of fallen soldiers back to their hometowns.

Over 34 days of search and recovery operations in Cambodia (from November 6th to December 10th, 2025), the K Teams searched for and recovered 180 remains of fallen soldiers; of which, Team K70 recovered 16 remains, Team K71 recovered 140 remains, and Team K73 recovered 24 remains.

Representatives from the K71 Team Command reported on the results of the first phase of the search and collection of martyrs' remains during the 25th period (dry season 2025-2026) at the ceremony.

During their mission in Cambodia, the officers and soldiers of the K Teams always upheld a high sense of responsibility, overcoming all difficulties; closely coordinating with the security and guidance forces of the Military Sub-district and the people of the neighboring provinces; working with local authorities at all levels to effectively carry out civilian affairs, providing financial and material support, organizing medical examinations and treatment, and providing medicine to the local people in the areas where they were stationed and where they searched for and collected the remains of fallen soldiers. They received the support and approval of the Cambodian government and people, successfully completing all assigned tasks and contributing to strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the two nations, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Speaking at the ceremony at the Xa Mat International Border Gate, on behalf of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, Colonel Nguyen Minh Tan – Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 – warmly praised the sense of responsibility and achievements of the officers and soldiers of the K Teams and expressed gratitude to the security and guidance forces of the military sub-districts of the provinces in the Kingdom of Cambodia for their assistance and support to the two K Teams in carrying out their mission.

Colonel Nguyen Minh Tan – Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, delivered a speech at the ceremony at Xa Mat International Border Gate.

Upon completing the first phase of the 25th mission and returning to the country, the Provincial Steering Committee 515 requests the Command Boards of the K Teams to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to complete the procedures for handing over the remains of fallen soldiers in accordance with regulations and to prepare for the Provincial Steering Committee 515 to organize a solemn and thoughtful memorial and burial ceremony for the fallen soldiers' remains. At the same time, they should urgently implement all necessary measures to ensure the full implementation of policies for officers and soldiers who have completed their missions; prepare the forces, inspect equipment, provide training in Khmer language and professional skills, especially excavation and search techniques, to serve the second phase of the search and repatriation of fallen soldiers' remains (2025-2026 dry season) and be ready for the search and repatriation of fallen soldiers' remains within the country.

Following the ceremony, delegates and armed forces personnel, representatives of all walks of life, and officers and soldiers of the K Teams jointly carried the remains of the martyrs and offered incense in remembrance of them at the Martyrs' Remains Repository at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery - Tay Ninh , Tan Bien commune, and the Vinh Hung Martyrs' Cemetery - Tan Hung, Vinh Hung commune.
