Scientific workshop "Preserving and promoting the prayer festival of the Khmer people in Ca Mau province"

On the morning of December 12th, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, in collaboration with the Khmer Art Troupe of Ca Mau province, organized a scientific seminar titled "Preserving and Promoting the Prayer for Peace Festival of the Khmer People in Ca Mau Province".

The Prayer for Peace Festival is a typical custom and tradition – a vibrant source of life in the Khmer people of Ca Mau. Aiming to preserve and effectively promote the cultural heritage of the Khmer Prayer for Peace Festival, the workshop focused on discussing and analyzing the theoretical and legal basis for preserving and promoting the festival's value; its history and development; its typical values; the cultural space of the festival; the role of the local community; the potential for exploiting the festival for tourism development; and effective solutions for preserving and promoting the festival in the new context.

Many presentations at the conference delved deeply into the prayer festival within the broader context of Southern Vietnam, comparing it with other heritage forms, identifying factors that change and impact the festival, and suggesting solutions for preservation; evaluating and analyzing it to propose solutions for development that benefit the community, especially in relation to current tourism activities.

The information from the workshop will be a valuable resource with diverse perspectives, serving as a basis for the goal of preserving and exploiting the cultural heritage of the ethnic community and the locality. Based on the content exchanged at the workshop, information will be used to develop strategies for preserving and effectively promoting cultural resources in socio -economic development, as well as effectively implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. From this, policies will be formulated to create favorable conditions for the Khmer community to enhance their responsibility in preserving this cultural heritage, connect with the local community, build national unity, and work towards positive goals in building the homeland and the country.
