The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just submitted a document to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on the implementation of the Can Gio International Transit Port project.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee submitted to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee a draft report, recommending that the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee agree on the policy of continuing to implement the Can Gio International Transit Port project in accordance with legal regulations.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to complete investment documents and procedures according to regulations.

At the same time, it is recommended that the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee direct the orientation of a specific mechanism to support attracting and retaining strategic investors (MSC Group), within the framework of Resolution 98/2023 of the National Assembly and current laws.

Specifically, incentives on infrastructure connecting traffic, logistics, and warehousing; support for administrative procedures, shortening investment preparation time; incentives to attract logistics support businesses.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee recommend that the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee approve the policy of assigning the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to lead and direct relevant departments and branches to review and update synchronous planning (sea space, land use, traffic, environment...) to serve as a legal basis for land and water surface allocation and investment licensing.

At the same time, direct to strengthen propaganda work, clearly explain the meaning and benefits of the project; mobilize the participation of the Party Committee and Can Gio district government in advocacy work, create consensus among the people; build reasonable support, compensation and resettlement policies, associated with sustainable livelihood conversion.

The Can Gio International Transit Port Project has been approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 148 dated January 16, 2025. The project proposal unit is a consortium of Saigon Port Joint Stock Company and Terminal Investment Limited Holding SA (part of MSC Group - the world's largest shipping line).

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee organized workshops, conducted field surveys, collected opinions from experts, scientists , ministries, and localities in the Southeast region and received high consensus (14/16 opinions from relevant ministries and localities).

The project has been updated in national planning: National master plan; Master plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system; Southeast regional planning and Ho Chi Minh City planning.

Can Gio International Transit Port Project is built at Go Con Cho Islet, Can Gio District with the goal of building and developing Can Gio International Transit Port, including services related to the exploitation of seaport container ports and other services.

The project has a land use area of ​​approximately 571 hectares, the project operation period is 50 years from the date of the Decision on policy. The investment capital is determined based on the project implementation proposal and the Can Gio International Transit Port Research Project and is not less than 50,000 billion VND.
