Dong Thap: Landslide causes 4 houses to collapse into Tien River

On the night of October 27 and early morning of October 28, in Tan Quoi hamlet, Tan Long commune, Dong Thap province, a landslide occurred on the bank of Tien river, causing 4 houses to collapse into the river.

According to initial information, the landslide was about 150m upstream from An Long - Tan Quoi ferry. At about 10:30 p.m. on October 27, Mr. Tran Van Lum (born in 1963) promptly discovered the landslide of bamboo bushes behind his house into the Tien River and shouted. Thanks to that, people in the neighborhood quickly came to help his family and neighboring households move their belongings out of the danger zone.

However, at around 00:00 on October 28, in the above-mentioned area, a landslide continued to occur with a length of about 50m, going about 30m into the mainland, causing 4 houses of people to collapse into the river. In addition to the 4 households whose houses were completely damaged, the landslide also affected the residences of 7 neighboring households.

Immediately after the landslide occurred, functional forces and local authorities quickly arrived to assist people in dismantling and moving houses and properties to safe places, ensuring the safety of people's lives and properties; visiting and encouraging households affected by the landslide; stretching ropes and placing warning signs in the landslide area.

Previously, on the evening of October 13, at Tan Quoi hamlet, Tan Long commune, a landslide occurred on the Tien river bank with a length of 30m, about 20m deep into the bank, causing a temporary house and some crops such as tamarind, crab, bamboo, mango... to be submerged in the Tien river.

According to statistics from the functional sector of Dong Thap province, in just 10 months of 2025, the whole province recorded more than 155 landslides on river banks, canals and ditches with a total length of nearly 20 km; of which, 15 landslides occurred on the banks of the Tien River with a total length of about 2,158 m, 140 landslides on small river banks and canals in the fields. The landslides affected 43 houses (18 houses completely collapsed), 7 graves, and 4 households raising red tilapia, with a total damage of 49 fish rafts, affecting the lives and production of many households along the river, with an estimated total damage due to landslides of about 30 billion VND.
