Tourists excitedly participate in the Van Cu Pho Traditional Festival 2025

Van Cu village, Dong Son commune (Nam Truc) has long been known as one of the "cradles" of the Vietnamese pho profession. From the first pho cooks through generations of pho makers here, the quintessence of pho has spread throughout the country, becoming a dish imbued with the soul of Vietnamese culture. Notably, in 2024, "Folk knowledge of Pho Nam Dinh province" was honored to be listed in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirming the unique value and enduring vitality of the hometown pho profession.

Artists serve people and tourists to experience and enjoy pho.

At the festival, after traditional rituals such as: palanquin procession, respectfully offering pho products to the village's tutelary god, there are activities such as awarding prizes for the Pho Craft Competition for middle school students; visiting and learning about the process of making pho noodles by hand; preparing broth, the stages of making Van Cu beef pho; organizing attractive traditional folk games such as: festival drum performances, Cheo singing, folk music, chess exchange, crossing the bridge, catching ducks in the pond, climbing the greasy pole, slow bicycle racing, blindfolded pot smashing, blindfolded drum beating, blindfolded pig catching... In particular, on April 6 and 7, 50 artisans of the Van Cu Pho Association - those who are following in their fathers' footsteps across the country served the people and tourists to enjoy nearly 6,000 bowls of pho.

The Van Cu Traditional Pho Festival is an important activity in the series of events of the Van Cu Village Temple and Pagoda Festival held in the third lunar month every year. The event not only aims to pay tribute to the ancestors who founded and preserved the pho profession but also arouses the pride and responsibility of today's generation in preserving and promoting this precious heritage. At the same time, it affirms the strong vitality, adaptability and development of the pho profession in modern life. This is also a meaningful preparation step towards the 2025 Pho Festival with the theme "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Pho - Heritage in the Digital Age" held at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Hanoi .
