Midfielder Nguyen Duc Chien is one of the most interesting faces in the September training camp of the Vietnamese national team. The player, who is on the books of Viettel FC, was called up by coach Philippe Troussier after an outstanding performance in the V-League 2023 with 7 goals. Duc Chien also scored 2 goals in the 2023 National Cup, making a significant contribution to helping Viettel FC win the runner-up position.
During the training session on the evening of September 4th with the Vietnamese national team, Duc Chien shared: "Thank you to the coaching staff of the Vietnamese national team for giving me the opportunity to participate in this training camp. My feeling when wearing the national team jersey is one of honor and pride. It is a great joy and motivation for me to strive in the future."
Duc Chien asserted that coach Troussier is creating a fresh new style of play for the Vietnamese national team by emphasizing ball control.

"I noticed that the two coaches (Mr. Troussier and Mr. Park Hang-seo) have different philosophies and approaches to managing the national team. During this training camp, I had some new experiences. Coach Troussier brings a different playing style, guiding the Vietnamese national team towards the goal of controlling possession and playing more short passes compared to Coach Park Hang-seo."
"Currently, I'm training and being tested in the defensive midfield role. This is a new and somewhat challenging experience, not just for me but for the other players as well. It's also a big challenge for me; the coach requires me to move around more than before. But it's okay, I will adapt as quickly as possible," Duc Chien affirmed.
The player born in 1998 also affirmed that Mr. Troussier is a passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated professional.
"Coach Troussier is a serious and dedicated professional. He can spend a lot of time on the field each day, combining coaching for both the national team and the U23 Vietnam team. Therefore, the whole team always tries to adapt, while behind the scenes, we are always happy and relaxed."
The Vietnamese national team is working hard in training.
"This is a trial period and my first time back with the Vietnamese national team, so my goal is to adapt as quickly as possible to the playing style and impress the head coach. I think the way I play is quite different from how I play at the club, as long as I can follow the coach's tactics. As for scoring goals, if I have the opportunity in a match, I still aspire to score while wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey," Duc Chien said.
Today (September 4th), striker Van Toan returned to Vietnam to rejoin the team. Duc Chien confirmed: "Van Toan has joined his teammates. He seems thinner and has less hair. In Korea, perhaps Van Toan didn't get to talk much, so when he returned to Vietnam, he talked a lot."
The Vietnamese national team is preparing for a friendly match against Palestine, which will take place on September 11th at Thien Truong Stadium ( Nam Dinh ). Coach Troussier's team only has one friendly match in September to assemble and test the lineup. In the two training sessions so far, the Vietnamese national team has trained together with the U23 Vietnamese team. This is a familiar strategy that Coach Troussier has applied in previous training camps.
