According to the agency, the fighting took place in the border area between Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran and Nimruz province, southwestern Afghanistan.

Both sides used small arms and artillery, but the Iranian side did not fire missiles as some sources claimed.

There have been no reports of casualties or the cause of the clash, which has now ended. The Iranian Embassy in Kabul and the Afghan Ministry of Defense have started contact to investigate the incident.

Previously, on July 31, 2022, a representative of the police force in Nimroze province, southern Afghanistan, said that clashes occurred between Taliban forces and Iranian border guards, killing at least one person.

Meanwhile, the semi-official Fars news agency quoted the leader of the Hirmand border district in Iran's Sistan & Baluchestan province as saying that the clashes had ended and there were no casualties.

According to Tasnim, the clash broke out after Taliban forces tried to raise the flag "in an area that is not Afghan territory".
