What do they say to each other about the 25-year mark?
Mr. Phan Tien Dung - the person responsible for producing the program for the past 15 years - told Tuoi Tre: "We asked each other why Road to Olympia could exist for so long?" Because there were difficult times, the program was faced with the situation of continuing or stopping.
Historian Le Van Lan is proud and honored to have been a part of that journey as an advisor from the first year until now. The expert has aged a lot, now over 90 years old, while Road to Olympia is still... young, always in his late teens or early twenties.
There are always young people eager to conquer the peak of knowledge, and each year brings a new climbing season.
After 25 years, along with the country's development, Road to Olympia has developed remarkably.
And up to now, this is still a program that is firmly based on the educational launch pad combined with the breath of life, accompanying the national education but "much more fun, lively, and vibrant" (as commented by Mr. Le Van Lan).
Recently VTV organized a gala to meet mountain climbing contestants over the past 25 years.
Many of them are now researchers, engineers, and experts studying, teaching, and working in world- leading environments or contributing to their homeland.
Many people have been and are continuing their journey to success, affirming Vietnamese intellectual capacity on the global knowledge map.
That day they asked each other: Is academic knowledge important? What is the purpose of taking the exam?... Then they themselves realized that Road to Olympia had created momentum for contestants to study very broadly, with knowledge spread across all fields. That is a necessary skill in the era of development, especially when people integrate and go out into the world.
Broad understanding and listening to real life gives players an advantage in personal competition, even in the "race" as well as the process of human resource development between countries.
At noon on March 28, 1999, Road to Olympia officially opened to the whole country, welcoming the first climbers.
After 25 years, the program has gone beyond the scope of a television brand to become a legacy, a journey together to conquer the peak of knowledge of many generations of Vietnamese students. So that every time the program's theme song plays, many people feel nostalgic.
Behind that are inspirational stories of the desire to learn, pride and transmission, continuity between generations of Olympia.
The predecessors guide the successors, there are even pairs of contestants who are teachers and students like Nguyen Huynh Minh (Ngoc Hoi High School, Hanoi ) - Olympia contestant in the 5th year, who is the teacher of Chu Ngoc Tram - Olympia contestant in the 25th year. Or mother-daughter pairs like Ms. Nguyen Thuy Ha (Hanoi), a first-year contestant, now the mother of Do Anh Minh - contestant in the 25th year.
Wherever they are, at home or abroad, the community maintains a strong connection with their homeland and always seeks to contribute and return in many ways.
Historian Le Van Lan said, "With its history and achievements, Road to Olympia deserves more attention."
