Nearly 3,000 hectares of rice infected with sheath blight

Farmers in Huong Non commune, Tam Nong district spray pesticides to prevent pests and diseases on winter-spring rice.

However, due to the nature of the Summer-Autumn crop and the impact of natural disasters, the Summer-Autumn rice area in many localities is currently infected with a number of plant pests and diseases, of which the most serious is sheath blight with a total infected area of nearly 3,000 hectares; physiological diseases over 460 hectares; bacterial stripe spots nearly 96 hectares; leaf blight about 120 hectares; rats damaging nearly 380 hectares; planthoppers and leaf rollers damaging about 176 hectares... In addition, sheath blight is also damaging over 300 hectares of Summer-Autumn corn.

Faced with the situation of pests and diseases of the Summer-Autumn crop occurring on a large area, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has coordinated with localities to organize prevention and control. Up to now, it has prevented over 1,200 hectares of brown spot infection, 88 hectares of physiological disease infection; the entire area is infected with bacterial stripe spots, small leaf rollers, various types of planthoppers... At the same time, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has directed the District Crop Production and Plant Protection Stations to coordinate with localities to organize concentrated rat extermination and protect crops.

To protect production results, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities focus on taking good care of the planted rice fields and planted crops; maintain adequate water in rice fields from now until the rice is green; closely monitor the weather situation, proactively take measures to drain water when heavy rain occurs. Strengthen field inspection to detect and direct timely and effective prevention of pests and diseases of seasonal rice to ensure production safety. Pay attention to pests and diseases: various types of planthoppers, bacterial stripe disease, 2-spotted stem borers in late-ripening rice areas...
