Recently, on November 4th, the OCOP product ranking council of Soc Trang province reviewed, evaluated, and ranked the products. They awarded 5 stars to ST25 fragrant rice (from Tran De district) and 4 stars to the following products: canned baby corn, lotus seeds with rock sugar, canned pineapple, canned straw mushrooms, Hai Son durian and egg mooncakes (from Chau Thanh district); and ready-to-eat bird's nest with pandan leaf flavor, ready-to-eat bird's nest with cordyceps flavor, Quoc Tin bird's nest, and premium instant bird's nest (from Vinh Chau town). In addition, one product was recommended to be sent to the local authorities for 3-star ranking.
Since the implementation of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program in 2018, Soc Trang province has had 238 products achieving OCOP star ratings; including 1 five-star product, 18 four-star products, and 219 three-star products from 135 entities including companies, businesses, cooperatives, and household businesses. The number of OCOP products to date has reached and exceeded 118% of the target set by the Soc Trang province's One Commune One Product Program.
One of the local specialty products is Soc Trang mooncakes, produced by companies and businesses in the province, which have achieved 3- and 4-star ratings and continue to improve product quality after achieving OCOP star ratings. Some businesses have developed many high-quality products that meet OCOP standards, such as Hai Son Mooncake and Sausage Company Limited in Ho Dac Kien commune, Chau Thanh district (Soc Trang), which has 8 mooncake products of various types that have achieved OCOP star ratings, including 7 products with 4-star ratings and 1 product with 3-star ratings.
According to the leaders of Hai Son company, to preserve the traditional flavor of mooncakes, in addition to using food-safe ingredients, the company has innovated and invested in upgrading production equipment. As a result, the amount of mooncakes supplied to the domestic market has increased by 5-10%. Many production facilities and OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities in Soc Trang province have also focused on upgrading their OCOP products, from quality to appearance, to meet the diverse demands of domestic and international markets, striving to upgrade the star rating for their already ranked products.
According to Mr. Vuong Quoc Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, to further enhance the value of local products, in the coming time, OCOP owners, companies, and businesses need to continue to pay attention to and review raw material areas; invest in improving packaging and designs, and enhance product quality to increase competitiveness with similar products on the market. For management levels, it is necessary to encourage and support entities to standardize the distinctive products of each locality participating in the OCOP Program; focus on promoting trade to connect, consume, and increase revenue for entities with OCOP products, while also widely promoting the province's OCOP products to many provinces and cities nationwide and for export abroad…
