Thong Nhat Hospital doctors are performing organ transplants on patients.
Previously, on June 11, Thong Nhat Hospital received a male patient NHN (39 years old, from Phu Yen ) who was admitted to the emergency room due to severe traumatic brain injury, brain contusion, and cerebral hemorrhage in a deep coma. Emergency doctors resuscitated and intubated the patient, and invited consultation from the anesthesia and resuscitation surgery and neurosurgery departments. However, due to the seriousness of the patient's condition, he did not survive. After being explained, the family agreed to donate tissues, organs, and body parts when the patient was brain dead.
On the morning of June 13, after receiving the conclusion of the brain death assessment council, Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Dinh Thanh, Director of Thong Nhat Hospital chaired a professional consultation with experts from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, Hospital 108, Hue Central Hospital, and Children's Hospital 2 to agree and decide to start the organ retrieval surgery at 3:30 p.m. the same day.
The surgery to remove organs from the brain-dead donor was successful, 7 organ units were quickly transported to hospitals for transplant to recipients, including: 2 kidneys transplanted to 2 patients at Thong Nhat Hospital; 1 heart and 1 part of liver, 2 corneas transplanted to 4 patients at Hue Central Hospital; 1 part of liver transplanted to a patient at Children's Hospital 2.
Currently, the 5 patients who received the transplant are progressing well, and 2 corneas are being prepared for transplant.
