World market developments

Contrary to domestic trends, the global coffee market recorded a slight recovery in the most recent trading session. Investors are awaiting key information from the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) policy meeting.

  • On the London exchange: Robusta coffee futures for January 2026 delivery fluctuated between $4,228 and $4,257 per ton. The March 2026 contract was traded at $4,109 per ton.
  • On the New York floor: The price of Arabica coffee futures for December 2025 delivery fluctuated around 394 - 403 cents/lb. The March 2026 futures contract increased to 368.75 cents/lb.

Key influencing factors

The market is being influenced by multiple macroeconomic and supply factors. Speculators are currently focusing on the weather conditions in Brazil and the Fed's interest rate decision.

Weather conditions in Brazil

Expert Nguyen Quang Binh commented: "The issue that speculators on the floor are most concerned about right now is the rather dry weather in Brazil." Prolonged drought is likely to negatively affect Arabica coffee production, the type of coffee of which Brazil is the largest producer in the world, thereby creating upward pressure on prices.

Fed monetary policy

The Fed meeting on December 9-10 (US time) is expected to result in a decision to cut interest rates. However, analysts believe that the short-term impact of monetary policy will not be as significant as factors related to supply chain risks and weather conditions.

Vietnam supply forecast

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has slightly revised its forecast for Vietnam's 2025/26 crop yield, down from June estimates but still 6.2% higher than the previous crop year. Domestic consumption is also projected to increase sharply to 4.9 million bags, reflecting the growing coffee culture in the country.

Short-term trend forecasting

Coffee prices are expected to continue to fluctuate in a narrow range, waiting for clearer signals from the Fed and weather developments in Brazil. If the drought in Brazil continues, coffee prices, especially Robusta, may receive strong support. Conversely, if the weather is more favorable and the Fed takes a dovish stance, prices may remain in a tug-of-war before establishing a new trend.
