Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương08/03/2025

After declining at the end of 2024, Vietnam's export coffee prices have rebounded sharply in the first two months of 2025 due to limited supply.

According to statistics from the Customs Department (Ministry of Finance), cited by the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), Vietnam's coffee exports in February 2025 are estimated at 150,000 tons, worth 854 million USD, an increase of 11.9% in volume and 17.2% in value compared to January 2025. Compared to February 2024, there was a decrease of 5.6% in volume but an increase of 61.7% in value.

In the first two months of 2025, Vietnam exported 284,000 tons of coffee, worth $1.58 billion, a decrease of 28.4% in volume but an increase of 26.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024, due to higher export prices.

In the first two months of 2025, the average export price of coffee reached US$5,575 per ton, an increase of 76.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

After declining at the end of 2024, Vietnam's coffee export prices have rebounded sharply in the first two months of 2025 due to limited supply. In February 2025, the average export price of coffee reached US$5,695 per ton, an increase of 4.7% compared to January 2025 and a 71.3% increase compared to February 2024.

Overall, in the first two months of 2025, the average export price of coffee reached US$5,575 per ton, an increase of 76.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

In the first month of 2025, Robusta coffee exports decreased by 47.9% in volume and 8.3% in value compared to January 2024, reaching 112.7 thousand tons, worth US$562.5 million. Robusta coffee accounted for 77.16% of Vietnam's total coffee export value in the first month of 2025, lower than the 84.47% share in January 2024.

In January 2025, Vietnam exported 8.3 thousand tons of Arabica coffee, valued at US$49.8 million, an increase of 58.2% in volume and 147.2% in value compared to January 2024. The proportion of Arabica coffee exports in Vietnam's total coffee export value increased to 6.83% in January 2025, higher than the 2.77% in January 2024.

Notably, exports of processed coffee increased by 26.0% compared to January 2024, reaching US$116.7 million. The proportion of processed coffee exports increased to 16.00% of Vietnam's total coffee export value in the first month of 2025, higher than the 12.75% in January 2024. This is a positive sign for Vietnam's coffee exports, with a growing proportion of processed coffee exports.

In the last days of February 2025, coffee prices on the world market fluctuated in opposite directions, with Robusta coffee prices falling while Arabica coffee prices rose sharply.

Robusta coffee prices fell due to forecasts of a slight increase in global Robusta coffee production and increased selling pressure from Vietnam as supply became more abundant. Meanwhile, investment funds are reducing their long-term buying positions, and demand from roasters has also somewhat decreased. Conversely, Arabica coffee prices were supported by forecasts of reduced production in Brazil.

Specifically, the 2024 drought and extensive pruning caused Arabica coffee production to decrease by 16% to 36.46 million bags. Brazilian coffee exports are projected to fall by 22% in the 2025-2026 season to 39.24 million bags due to poor Arabica production for the fifth consecutive year and persistently low inventories. Meanwhile, the outlook for Robusta coffee is more positive, with production expected to increase by 8% to 23.29 million bags. Given these factors, coffee prices may continue to fluctuate significantly in the near future.

In February 2025, Robusta coffee prices in the domestic market peaked on February 22nd, 2025, before adjusting downwards due to weakening demand as businesses fulfilled short-term export orders.

In the domestic market, coffee prices in the Central Highlands region continued to fall sharply today, March 8, 2025, by approximately 3,500 VND/kg, with the current average purchase price at 130,400 VND/kg.

Specifically, today's coffee prices in Dak Lak are 130,500 VND/kg, in Lam Dong 129,500 VND/kg, in Gia Lai 130,300 VND/kg, and in Dak Nong 130,500 VND/kg.
