Pig price today December 3, 2025: Approaching the 60,000 VND/kg mark

The price of live pigs nationwide continues to increase sharply, fluctuating between 54,000 and 59,000 VND/kg. This increase was established after the price of live pigs hit a 5-year low (47,000 VND/kg) in mid-November. As of December 3, the price of live pigs had recovered about 20% from that bottom.

Previously, after reaching a three-year peak of about 80,000 VND/kg in March, the price of live pigs has continuously decreased. The reason is that the complicated developments of African swine fever have caused many pig farmers to sell their pigs to "run away from the epidemic", increasing supply and putting pressure on prices.

Supply decreased after the epidemic and floods, prices are expected to continue to increase

Mr. Nguyen Van Trong, former Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, explained that the recent fluctuations in pig prices were not only due to the epidemic, but also due to the prolonged rain and floods, which reduced demand. At the same time, fear of storms and floods in some places caused farmers to sell early, causing a sudden increase in supply.

Currently, the recovery situation after the storm and flood is more stable, demand is starting to return. However, supply has decreased significantly due to disease and floods. Mr. Trong said that the pig herds of many businesses, especially in the Central region, have been significantly depleted.

Mr. Trong warned that the risk of disease spreading rapidly after the floods could greatly affect the supply. He predicted that the price of live pigs could increase further in the coming time, to over 60,000 VND/kg and could reach 70,000 VND/kg between now and Tet. It is very difficult to restore the pig herd in time to meet the demand for Tet because it takes at least 140 days to raise them.

On the contrary, Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, expressed concern about purchasing power during the peak Tet season. He said that storms and floods affect consumers' wallets, making it difficult for purchasing power to increase sharply.
