Pig prices stable at low level

The price of live pigs in the North decreased by the highest 2,000 VND/kg last week, fluctuating between 57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the North dropped by the most 2,000 VND/kg last week.

Accordingly, after a decrease of VND 2,000/kg, live pigs in localities including Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh were traded at VND 57,000/kg.

57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg is the price range recorded in other localities after a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.

* The live pig market in the Central and Central Highlands regions decreased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg last week.

Specifically, 55,000 VND/kg is the transaction price recorded in Dak Lak province after a decrease of 2,000 VND/kg.

Traders in localities including Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan all reduced the price to 56,000 VND/kg.

Except for Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Tri, where transactions were stable, other provinces also decreased by VND 1,000/kg last week.

Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 55,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

* Pig price in the South decreased by 1,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, localities including Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Vung Tau, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang and Ben Tre all reduced prices to around 56,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

The remaining provinces and cities did not record any new changes last week.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is around 56,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.

* According to the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in the first 6 months of 2023, prices of most animal feed ingredients tended to decrease compared to the general level in 2022.

However, soybean meal prices remain high compared to 2022 (up 1.7%). As finished feed prices have only started to decline since March 2023, feed prices in the first 6 months of 2023 are still 1.1-2.1% higher than in 2022.

In general, although the price of animal feed ingredients has begun to decrease in recent months, it is still very high (from 41.5-55.7%) compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic (2020). Therefore, the price of finished animal feed in the first 6 months of 2023 is still 37.1-43.0% higher than the price of animal feed in the period before the pandemic (2020).
