Gia Lai: Urgently respond to storm Kalmaegi

Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi storm) heading towards the Central mainland, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has issued an urgent dispatch requesting all levels, sectors and localities to promptly deploy response measures, absolutely not being subjective or negligent.

According to forecasts, typhoon Kalmaegi may reach wind speed of level 13, gusting to level 16-17 when entering the central East Sea and is likely to cause very heavy rain, lasting for many days. The Provincial People's Committee requested the entire political system to proactively activate plans to prevent and combat storms and floods early, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property according to the "four on-the-spot" motto.

For the sea area, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to coordinate with relevant parties to closely monitor the storm's developments, strictly manage ships going out to sea, guide them to avoid dangerous areas and enter safe anchorages before November 4. Quy Nhon Port Authority is fully prepared with search and rescue equipment, ensuring the safety of cargo ships and transport ships in the port waters.

On land, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested localities to resolutely evacuate people from low-lying areas, riverbanks and dangerous landslide areas, especially Ba Hoa Mountain (Quy Nhon Nam Ward) and Hon Cha Mountain (Quy Nhon Bac Ward), to be completed before November 4. Functional forces organized guards, guided safe traffic, reinforced houses, cleared water flows, reinforced structures, and minimized damage.

The Provincial People's Committee also called on people to urgently harvest crops, rice, and aquatic products with the motto "green at home is better than old in the fields", proactively protect property, and brace aquaculture cages against storms.

Along with that, functional departments and branches are assigned the task of preparing rescue forces and means; ensuring reserves of food, drinking water, medicine, and means of communication; and being ready to mobilize for relief when situations arise...

More than 1,000 people, 6 armored vehicles... ready to wait for orders

In order to proactively respond to storm No. 13, the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command has surveyed, reviewed and updated 25 areas at high risk of landslides and flooding, and established 6 forward command posts ready to respond to natural disasters.

The unit mobilized more than 1,000 officers and soldiers along with 48 cars, 6 armored vehicles, 27 boats and many specialized vehicles, proactively maneuvering when storms and floods occur.

The Provincial Military Command is also coordinating with 19 units of the Ministry of National Defense, 4 units of the Ministry of Public Security and 11 units of Military Region 5 stationed in the area, ensuring close coordination in search and rescue work and storm and flood response.

At sea, according to the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard, there are currently 1,300 fishing boats (more than 10,400 workers) operating directly at sea. The Border Guard is actively coordinating with localities, contacting boat owners and fishermen to guide them to move away from dangerous areas and to safe anchorages.
