On July 3rd, in Quy Nhon ward, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a conference to assess the socio -economic development situation in the first six months of the year, set out key directions and tasks for the last six months of 2025, and assign socio-economic development targets and tasks to 58 newly established communes and wards in the former Binh Dinh province area.
Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung delivered a speech at the conference.
Following the merger, Gia Lai became one of the few localities in the country with diverse topography, ranging from mountainous plateaus to midland plains and a long coastline, accompanied by a system of seaports, airports, national highways, and regional expressways. This provides a favorable foundation for the formation of integrated economic centers, the development of deep processing industries, logistics, high-tech agriculture , and marine, cultural, and ecological tourism.
With the new administrative scale comprising 135 communes and wards, establishing targets and assigning development tasks is a necessary step to help each locality quickly "get into the swing of things" and catch up with the province's strategic direction. Provincial leaders require each commune and ward to concretize its growth management program down to each sector and field, with the spirit of "no time to wait."
In the first six months of 2025, Gia Lai recorded a GRDP growth rate of 7.49%; the industrial and construction sectors increased by over 10%, and the service sector by 7.64%; total budget revenue exceeded 3,600 billion VND, and public investment disbursement reached over 6,400 billion VND. While all indicators are positive, according to Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung, this is still not enough.
"I am still concerned that, to this day, our province still lacks truly leading enterprises and large-scale projects that act as catalysts to create momentum and a ripple effect. Without these strategic 'locomotives,' sustainable economic development is very difficult," Mr. Ho Quoc Dung emphasized.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan delivered a speech at the conference.
The absence of large-scale projects has become a bottleneck that needs to be addressed proactively, without waiting or relying on luck. Mr. Dung shared that he and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Pham Anh Tuan, directly contacted the leaders of many large domestic corporations, proactively inviting them to Gia Lai to survey and explore investment opportunities.
"We can no longer sit and wait for businesses to come to us. We must proactively seek them out, inviting them with all goodwill and a determination to work together. This spirit needs to spread to every department, agency, and every ward and commune throughout the province," Mr. Dung emphasized.
With that spirit in mind, the Provincial Party Secretary suggested that localities should not only fulfill administrative targets, but also proactively create a favorable environment for investment, actively remove obstacles for businesses, and proactively connect, including through direct and specific methods as the provincial leadership is doing.
Currently, Gia Lai has planned and implemented many strategic infrastructure projects such as: the Quy Nhon – Pleiku expressway, the expansion of Phu Cat airport, the coastal road, and key industrial zones and clusters such as Tra Da, Nhon Hoi, Nam Pleiku, Phu My… Priority areas for investment attraction include: processing industry, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, coastal urban development, and high-tech agriculture.
The leaders of Gia Lai province assigned targets and tasks for socio-economic development to the newly established communes and wards.
"Attracting investment is not only a development task but also a crucial political task. Every official and every locality must be an 'ambassador' welcoming investors. When the government works alongside businesses, they will feel secure in investing, and the province will develop faster," Secretary Ho Quoc Dung emphasized.
Aspiration to build our homeland Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized that the workload for the last six months of the year is enormous, requiring the entire political system to act together with the spirit of "no retreat, only action," and "no excuses, only results." Each official must have a spirit of dedication, nurture a desire to contribute, and consider the development of the locality as their own mission. To achieve the 8% growth target for the whole year of 2025, the Chairman of Gia Lai province requested that all sectors and localities focus on removing obstacles, unlocking resources, reviewing all stalled projects, and proposing breakthrough directions in each area of responsibility. Simultaneously, preparations should be made for the commencement and inauguration of major projects on the occasion of National Day on September 2nd, creating a strong competitive spirit for development throughout the province. |
