Developments in the domestic rice market
According to observations on December 14th, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region remained stable compared to the previous trading session. Trading activity was slow due to limited supply, with farmers maintaining high prices while traders remained cautious.
At traditional trading points such as An Giang , Lap Vo, Sa Dec, or An Cu (Dong Thap), the amount of rice arriving at the market is not large, and prices have not changed significantly.

Japan is interested in investing in low-emission rice.
A notable development is the increasing interest from Japanese investors in the high-quality, low-emission rice sector in the Mekong Delta. On December 12th, an investment promotion conference for the Sustainable Development Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice was held in Can Tho, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
This event is seen as an opportunity for Japanese businesses to connect, understand needs, and promote cooperation in the fields of technology, processing, and trade of green rice. The Vietnamese side is calling for investment in three main areas: production and processing, application of digital technology (AI, Big Data), and human resource training. According to Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the International Cooperation Department, this project is a pioneering program aimed at building a brand for Vietnamese green rice and contributing to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
