According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the short term, pepper prices are higher than in previous years, benefiting farmers. The forecast indicates that global demand for pepper will remain high in the coming period, so pepper prices may continue to rise.
In the short term, pepper farmers benefit from high pepper prices; however, overall, pepper farming remains unstable. The main reason is that other crops such as durian and coffee are yielding higher profits, making many farmers hesitant to increase their pepper cultivation area.
According to general assessments, although pepper prices are currently high, farmers are reluctant to sell despite the peak harvest season, causing transactions to slow down. Meanwhile, domestic and global inventories have fallen to record lows, forecasting that pepper prices will continue to remain high.

According to a report by Nedspice, global pepper production is expected to continue to decline in 2025 due to reduced cultivated area in Vietnam and unfavorable weather conditions in India. However, demand currently remains higher than supply.
According to VPSA, global demand for spices is increasing rapidly, especially in the US. Vietnam is expanding its exports thanks to investment in processing technology, focusing on major markets such as the US, China, India, and Europe.
Vietnam's pepper production for the 2024-2025 crop year is projected to reach 172,000 tons, a 2% decrease compared to the previous year and a 47% decrease compared to the 2018-2019 crop year. In Brazil, pepper production in 2025 is estimated at 85,000-90,000 tons, with the state of Espírito Santo harvesting approximately 20,000 tons. India is expected to see a 20-25% decrease in production due to bad weather in Karnataka, potentially increasing import demand despite trade barriers.
Pepper prices surged at the end of 2024 but are now fluctuating within a narrow range. Vietnamese farmers are benefiting from high prices, reducing selling pressure. Exports to China in 2024 decreased by more than 80%, and it is unclear when China will return to the market, but if buying remains strong, pepper prices could continue to rise.
