World oil prices today
World oil prices closed sharply lower on Friday, August 17 (Vietnam time). WTI crude oil was at $76.60 per barrel, down $1.56 per barrel, or 2%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at $78.16 per barrel and opened today's session at the same price.
Brent crude oil was trading at $79.58 per barrel, down $1.46 per barrel, or 1.80%. Brent crude closed the previous trading session at $81.04 per barrel and opened today's session at $80.88 per barrel.
According to analysts, the main reason is believed to be that investors are increasingly concerned about the prospects for growth in oil demand from China – the world's largest oil importer.
The latest economic data from China, released yesterday (August 15), paints a bleak picture for the world's second-largest economy. Accordingly, housing prices in China have fallen sharply, the biggest drop in nine years, industrial output has slowed, and unemployment has risen, raising concerns about China's future fuel demand and consequently, a decline in oil prices.
Domestic fuel prices today
On August 17th, the retail prices of gasoline and diesel fuel, according to Petrolimex 's published price list in Zone 1 and Zone 2 (applied to 46 provinces and cities), are as follows:
The aforementioned domestic retail fuel prices were adjusted by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade at the price adjustment session on the afternoon of August 15th. Accordingly, the price of fuel oil increased the most, by 217 VND/kg. Diesel fuel increased the least, by 89 VND/liter. E5 RON 92 and RON 95-III gasoline increased by 167 VND/liter and 179 VND/liter respectively. Kerosene also increased by 161 VND/liter.
Gasoline discounts today
The discounted prices of petroleum products today, August 17th, at some domestic gas stations are as follows:
Pvoil applies the following discounts on August 17th: Diesel: 1,500 VND/liter; RON 95 - III gasoline: 1,400 VND/liter; E5 gasoline: 1,250 VND/liter. These discounts apply at Pvoil Dinh Vu, Petec An Hai, and Cai Lan depots.
Tu Luc fuel company's discounts on August 17th are as follows: Diesel: 1,450 VND/liter; RON 95 - III gasoline: 1,350 VND/liter; E5 gasoline: 1,200 VND/liter.
MIPEC fuel discounts on August 17th: Gasoline 95-III: 1,100 VND; E5 gasoline: 900 VND; diesel: 1,350 VND/liter.
Forecast of domestic gasoline and diesel prices for the next period.
According to a representative of a petroleum business, domestic gasoline and diesel prices will fluctuate according to the global oil situation. It is predicted that in the next price adjustment period, gasoline and diesel prices may be reduced.
Since the beginning of the year, starting from the price adjustment on January 4th, gasoline prices have increased 17 times and decreased 15 times. Diesel prices have increased 16 times and decreased 16 times.
