Second prize in international science and technology adds motivation for students to do scientific research

Applications of artificial intelligence in medical practice

The two students who have just been named to the prestigious ISEF honor roll are Nguyen Le Quoc Bao (class 12CA) and Le Tuan Hy (class 12B), Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City. They are the authors of the project "Integrated deep learning software to segment and reconstruct monolithic heart structures in simulated 3D space for medical practice applications". The project of these two young men applies artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to support doctors and imaging specialists in giving diagnostic results from CT scans by recreating 2D images converted to simulated 3D, thereby easily serving medical practice. With this project, Nguyen Le Quoc Bao and Le Tuan Hy (from the Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam delegation) excellently won the second prize in the field of Systems Software (system software) and won the 4th special prize awarded by the American Computer Association.

Vietnam's first second prize in 12 years

Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, a member of the Ho Chi Minh City delegation participating in the ISEF competition this year - said that the two students were also the only prize-winning team of the Vietnamese delegation at this year's ISEF competition, and the first second prize of the Vietnamese delegation after 12 years of participating in this international playground. Sharing with Tuoi Tre reporter, Ms. Pham Thi Be Hien was very happy when talking about Nguyen Le Quoc Bao and Le Tuan Hy: "Both of them are very good and obedient students with a high spirit of self-study and discipline in all activities. But they are also emotional, understanding, cheerful and humorous students.

Over the time of following the students in implementing the project, I realized that both of them have a passion for scientific research, good foreign language skills, are flexible and especially work well together in "combat" when working in groups. Ms. Hien as well as the entire school feels proud of the achievements that the two students of the school have achieved. "The school is very honored and proud of the achievements that Bao and Hy have brought to the city as well as Vietnam. This award is also a great motivation for the school and the students, to further promote scientific research activities at the school, which can bring many ideas and many projects with high applicability in science and in life" - Ms. Hien happily shared. 1,700 projects from 64 countries attend ISEF 2024

From May 11 to 17, ISEF 2024 took place in Los Angeles, California, USA. ISEF is the largest annual international science and engineering competition for high school students. This year, the competition attracted nearly 1,700 projects from students from 64 countries around the world. The Vietnamese delegation has 17 students with 9 participating projects selected from 149 projects participating in the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2023-2024 school year. The delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training includes 2 students from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted with 1 project.
