Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh hopes tourists will continue to support Ha Long Bay

After the disaster of the Green Bay 58 tourist boat capsizing in Ha Long Bay, killing 39 people, the Quang Ninh tourism industry expressed its deep condolences and called on the community, businesses, and tourists to continue to share and accompany each other to overcome difficulties, affirming that Ha Long is still a safe and attractive destination.

Recently, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province, called on people and businesses to continue to care about and support the local tourism industry, after the disaster of the capsized tourist ship Bay Xanh 58 in Ha Long Bay.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung said that the capsized tourist ship Bay Xanh 58 was a "particularly rare incident that has never happened in decades", caused by unusual and unpredictable weather developments; unrelated to the impact of storm No. 3 (Wipha).

Immediately after the incident, the Government, ministries, sectors and Quang Ninh province urgently mobilized rescue forces, searched for victims, and cared for the affected families. 39 bodies were handed over to their families, 10 survivors were treated and are now in stable health.

According to the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh, over the past years, the province has focused on investing in and improving the quality of the tourist fleet, issuing full regulations on management, operation and supervision of water vehicles, ensuring safety for tourists.

After the incident, the tourism industry reviewed and supplemented forecasting, warning and rescue procedures, determined not to let a similar situation recur.

"We appreciate the efforts of the Quang Ninh tourism business community to overcome difficulties. The tourism industry calls on businesses to continue to improve service quality, innovate products, train staff and especially strictly comply with procedures to ensure safety for tourists. We also hope that domestic and international tourists continue to trust and support Ha Long Bay, a world heritage and wonder," Mr. Dung emphasized, adding that, up to now, tourism activities on Ha Long Bay are still operating normally.

Data from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province shows that in the first 6 months of 2025, Quang Ninh welcomed more than 12.1 million visitors, an increase of 16% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international visitors reached 2.3 million, domestic visitors nearly 9.8 million. Tourism revenue reached more than 29,140 billion VND, an increase of 31% over the same period.

According to the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh, these results show the potential and strong attraction of tourism in Ha Long and Quang Ninh. The local government and tourism industry are committed to continuing to improve quality, ensure safety, and maintain the image of Ha Long as an attractive, friendly and safe destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
