Wildlife protection education in schools

The program to coordinate the implementation of pilot activities on wildlife protection education in general schools in Lam Dong is carried out at 3 levels, including Phan Nhu Thach Primary School - Da Lat city, Da Nhim Secondary and High School - Lac Duong district.

At schools, the following activities have taken place: experimental teaching of wildlife protection education content; experimental testing of some communication activities on wildlife protection education; experimental testing of some content in the wildlife protection education model.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Huy Hoang - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, the Institute was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over the key ministerial-level research task "Wildlife protection education in general schools in the Central Highlands region". In the process of implementing the task, the Institute coordinated with the Departments of Education and Training of 5 Central Highlands provinces to conduct research and survey activities on awareness, needs and current status of wildlife protection education in general schools.

The survey results have been the basis for the Institute to compile documents and organize training for key management staff and teachers of 5 Central Highlands provinces on wildlife protection education in general schools. After the training, the Institute coordinated with schools to organize pilot activities on wildlife protection education such as: integrating into subjects; organizing wildlife protection education activities at the school level as well as coordinating with the community; organizing communication activities on wildlife protection education in general schools in the Central Highlands region. Thereby contributing to the protection of some wildlife species and their habitats.

This pilot activity was deployed at a number of primary, secondary and high schools in Dak Lak, then Lam Dong. After that, the Institute advised the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training and the Departments of Education and Training to deploy it throughout the Central Highlands region.

“Through experimental teaching activities on wildlife protection education, communication, building educational models, discussions, and exchanges on wildlife protection education models, the Institute can perfect documents as well as make feasible proposals for implementation in accordance with the reality in general schools.

From the shared content, each school will have practical and creative activities to raise awareness, consciousness and behavior of students in protecting wildlife; at the same time, enhance the capacity of teachers and students in innovating teaching and learning methods according to the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program. In addition, these activities also contribute to changing the awareness and behavior of parents, families and the community in joining hands to protect wildlife", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huy Hoang - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences emphasized.
