According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong), by November 5, the whole city had planted more than 12,000 hectares of winter vegetables, reaching 41% of the plan.
Due to the impact of early season rains and floods, the progress of winter crop planting this year is slower than the same period last year. Currently, farmers are harvesting early winter vegetables and focusing on planting carrots, onions, and garlic.
This winter crop, the whole city strives to plant about 29,000 hectares of vegetables. Of which, the western Hai Phong area will plant 22,000 hectares, the eastern Hai Phong area is 7,000 hectares.
To achieve the proposed winter crop production plan, the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that localities strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to expand the planting area. Priority will be given to expanding the production scale of high- value crops such as onions, garlic, carrots, etc.; have a plan to spread out the planting of winter crops such as cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower to avoid the situation of mass harvesting, oversupply affecting consumption and selling prices. At the same time, build linkage and consumption models from the beginning of the season to limit the situation of good harvest but low price, and increase the value of winter crop production.
