Seedless persimmon trees in recent years have brought high economic efficiency to people.

Seedless persimmon trees are commonly grown in the communes of Ba Be, Cho Ra, Thuong Minh and the coastal area of Ba Be Lake. According to local people, this persimmon variety has existed for a long time and is grown in home gardens and on fields. Seedless persimmon trees are suitable for local soil conditions and grow well.

Seedless persimmons have a round shape, thin skin, thick flesh, when ripe they have a beautiful orange-yellow color, are crispy, sweet, easy to preserve and transport far away. At this time, on the hillsides, people's home gardens begin to produce the first bunches of ripe persimmons of the season, attracting tourists to visit, enjoy and buy as gifts.

Mr. Duong Van Tien, Cho Ra commune said: My family has been growing seedless persimmons for more than 20 years, and now has nearly 1 hectare. Most of the area has yielded fruit, and each crop has brought in tens of millions of dong on average. However, due to many reasons, some trees have died for unknown reasons or the trees have grown well but have few fruits. Many fruits do not have beautiful appearance, so the selling price on the market is still low, which is also a common limitation for households growing persimmons here.

Seedless persimmon trees are closely associated with the lives of many households. In the past, people mainly grew persimmons for food and as gifts. However, in the past 15 years, thanks to increasing market demand, persimmon trees have been planned to develop in the direction of commodities, gradually becoming a key crop in many communes.

According to statistics from Ba Be district (old), by 2025, the whole district will have over 200 hectares of seedless persimmons, of which many households have an area of 1-3 hectares. Many households have an income of tens, even hundreds of millions of VND each year thanks to selling fresh persimmons and processing products from persimmons.

The seedless persimmon growing area in Ban Ngu village, Cho Ra commune is continuing to be expanded by households on the hillsides.

In Ban Ngu village, Cho Ra commune, many households have been expanding the area of seedless persimmon cultivation on the hillsides.

Seedless persimmons are currently not only consumed strongly in the northern provinces and cities, such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh... but are also ordered by tourists and brought to the southern provinces. Especially, during the tourist season, this fruit is considered a "specialty that attracts visitors", contributing to significantly increasing income for persimmon growers and community tourism .

Realizing the potential of seedless persimmons, in recent years, the communes of Ba Be, Cho Ra, Thuong Minh, and Dong Phuc have included this tree in the list of key agricultural product development, within the OCOP product development program. Up to now, seedless persimmon products have affirmed their quality and competitiveness in the market.

Comrade Trieu Anh Chu, Chairman of Cho Ra Commune People's Committee, said: Along with building the brand of seedless persimmons, the commune will coordinate with provincial departments and branches to organize training courses on planting, caring for, harvesting and preserving persimmons after harvest. At the same time, support people to plant new ones, renovate old persimmon gardens, graft varieties and apply production processes according to biosafety standards, aiming at organic production and moving towards linking product consumption. In particular, Cho Ra will coordinate with neighboring communes to develop persimmon season experience tourism.

The difficulty in developing seedless persimmon trees pointed out by communes is that the production scale is still small and fragmented, and cultivation techniques are not uniform. Many areas of trees are old, have pests and diseases, and productivity has decreased. Post-harvest processing and preservation are still limited, which can easily lead to backlogs and traders forcing down prices...

Faced with this reality, communes with seedless persimmon growing areas have been implementing a number of solutions, such as: Building concentrated persimmon growing areas, improving the quality of plant varieties and farming techniques towards organic and VietGAP; supporting people and cooperatives when participating in deep processing, diversifying products from persimmons. At the same time, developing the product value chain from planting, processing, to consumption and experiential tourism; actively participating in agricultural fairs, bringing products to e-commerce platforms... to contribute to bringing a more prosperous life to people.
