Contribute to bringing Quang Tri pickleball far and wide

For many years, Mr. Le Duy Tam (born in 1993), residing in Dong Ha City, has been known by the grassroots sports community inside and outside the province as a versatile athlete, competing successfully in many tennis, soccer and pickleball tournaments. Not only outstanding on the field, Mr. Tam is also highly appreciated for his dedication and silent contributions in creating many useful sports playgrounds for the community. Currently, Mr. Tam is devoting a lot of effort to developing the Quang Tri pickleball movement, gradually building an image in the national sports arena.

A successful start

Up to now, Le Duy Tam is considered one of the most successful pickleball players of Quang Tri. Proof of that is the convincing and impressive victories at the Pickleball GTB Open Championship 2025 held in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province recently. At this tournament, he achieved high results in 3 competitions, including: 1 First Prize and 2 Third Prizes. This success of Mr. Tam and his teammates has contributed to building the image of Quang Tri pickleball in the national arena.

Mr. Tam shared that in the past, he played soccer very well, was called to the provincial gifted team and competed successfully in school and student sports tournaments as well as amateur soccer in the Central region.

Some time later, due to an injury on the soccer field, he decided to switch to tennis. With his natural athleticism, good physical strength, and good tactical and psychological thinking, Tam quickly caught up and played tennis well. Around July 2024, when he saw pickleball developing strongly nationwide and starting to appear more in Quang Tri , he and some of his brothers started to approach this sport.

“At that time, because there was no pickleball court, we painted the court lines according to the size of the pickleball court, used a tennis net, and bought rackets, balls... to try playing. At first, we encountered many difficulties when we tried to practice without mastering the gameplay and rules. However, the more we played, the more we realized that this sport had many interesting things and similarities with tennis, so we quickly approached it. As people who love sports and want to have many new experiences with pickleball, we discussed developing this sport in parallel with tennis,” Mr. Tam recalled.

Having experience playing soccer and tennis well, in a short time, he mastered the playing style, competition rules and confidently participated in grassroots pickleball tournaments. With the goal of developing pickleball and tennis together, Mr. Tam and members of Hoi Ngo Tennis - Pickleball group in Quang Tri (Hoi Ngo group) decided to invest in building a standard pickleball court to create an environment for training, practice and competition; forming a forum for people with the same passion to have a place to gather, contribute ideas, and support each other to develop together.

Since then, Mr. Tam and his brothers in Hoi Ngo group have invested in building and putting into operation 8 pickleball courts and upgrading 2 tennis courts in September 2024.

In October 2024, Mr. Tam participated in the 1st Internal Pickleball Reunion Tournament and won second prize in the 5.3 level competition, then won a number of other good achievements at grassroots pickleball tournaments held in Quang Tri.

From those competitions, he accumulated more experience and built his own training method. Recently, Mr. Tam has participated in many tournaments in the Central region, making a name for himself in the 5.3 level competition, notably winning third place at the Pickleball Pro Hue Tournament, second place at the Pickleball Dat Bep Open Da Nang Tournament...

Last May, he won the Chi Lang Hue Pickleball Championship in the 5.7 level competition. Notably, at the GTB Open Pickleball Championship 2025 held in Nha Trang from May 31 to June 1, he made strong progress. He shared: “That was the first time I participated in a large-scale tournament with the participation of thousands of athletes.

I competed in 3 events with a total of 22 matches, the duration of which lasted from day to late night. To maintain my physical strength, after each intense match, I often carefully checked the time of the next match to calculate the time to find a cool place to have a light meal or take a short nap to recover and regenerate energy.

With stable performance, strong will and technical playing style, Mr. Tam and his teammates competed steadily, overcame many challenges and achieved impressive results when he and athlete Le Truong Manh (Quang Tri) won the championship cup in the 5.5 level competition; with athlete Huynh Nhat Hien (Da Nang) won the third prize in the 6.0 level competition; with athlete Tran Nguyen Phuoc won the third prize in the 6.5 level competition.

With a successful start, Hoi Ngo group continues to affirm its position as one of the leading clubs in the region, producing athletes with high professional qualifications, passionate competition and professional spirit.

Create a playground to connect passions

Mr. Le Duy Tam is one of the pioneers in developing the pickleball movement in Quang Tri. Not only investing money and effort in building facilities for pickleball practice and competition, he is also an active person in spreading the passion for this sport to many people.

As the deputy head of Pickleball at Hoi Ngo group, Mr. Tam has become a bridge connecting people with the same passion and developing this sport both inside and outside the province, arranging scores so that brothers and sisters inside and outside the province have a fair and transparent forum; actively supporting in terms of expertise, techniques and operation of pickleball tournaments...

In addition, he participates in teaching pickleball at Hoi Ngo group from basic to advanced, and is willing to share his competition experience with everyone to confidently participate in tournaments. Mr. Tam said: “In the first 6 months of 2025, Hoi Ngo group has organized more than 50 pickleball classes for all ages in and outside the province. To improve the quality of teaching, we also invite many famous domestic coaches and good medical teams in and outside the province to directly instruct beginners in pickleball on how to protect themselves and avoid situations that can easily lead to injury during practice and competition.”

To create a useful playground and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, in October 2024, Hoi Ngo Group directly organized an internal pickleball tournament to create conditions for everyone to compete in many different events for all ages. Up to now, through 4 times of organizing the internal Hoi Ngo Pickleball Tournament, athletes have improved their professional skills, experience and are ready to participate in tournaments organized by the provincial movement system.

According to Mr. Tam, this is also an important basis for organizing the first Open Pickleball Hoi Ngo Tournament - 2024. The tournament with the participation of more than 300 athletes in Quang Tri and Hue City, Da Nang City, Nghe An... has become a healthy playground, promoting the development of the pickleball movement. Currently, Hoi Ngo group is building a plan to implement the second season of the tournament, expected to take place in August 2025.

Besides the pickleball tournament, Hoi Ngo group also successfully organized 5 internal tennis tournaments and 7 open tennis tournaments, creating a brand in the Central region with the participation of many excellent athletes from all over the country.

In those successes, there is an important contribution of Mr. Tam in many aspects. Up to now, Hoi Ngo group has affirmed its reputation in teaching, training, organizing tournaments in the form of socialized sports and has many athletes competing with high achievements.

“In the coming time, I will actively practice to participate in many tennis and pickleball tournaments, focusing more on pickleball to contribute to spreading the Quang Tri pickleball movement widely. At the same time, I will continue to devote all my heart to training and organizing sports tournaments to create a useful playground for everyone; sponsor tennis, pickleball, grassroots football tournaments and grassroots sports activities in the locality with the desire to develop my hometown's sports", said Mr. Tam.
