Hanoi plans to build 140 new high schools and multi-level general schools.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that up to now, it has completed the work of building orientations for the development of the preschool education system, general education and continuing education; developing the school network until 2030, with a vision to 2050, and sending updates to the Capital Planning and the Project to adjust the Hanoi Capital Planning until 2045, with a vision to 2065 according to regulations.

The Government has issued a decision approving the planning of Hanoi Capital for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, in which 140 new high schools and general schools of many levels will be built. The City People's Committee has also issued a decision on the plan to implement this planning.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi city will have a total of 2,913 kindergartens and general schools at all levels, an increase of 39 kindergartens and general schools compared to the same period last year.

Of which, the public school sector has 2,310 schools, an increase of 26 schools compared to the same period last year. The private school sector has 604 schools, an increase of 13 schools compared to the same period last year.

43 schools to be put into operation next school year

Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that next school year, the city will have more than 2.3 million students, an increase of about 60,000 students compared to the 2024-2025 school year.

To meet the demand for students, Hanoi has built a series of new schools at all levels. As of August 15, the city has built 43 new kindergartens and primary schools at all levels. Of these, public schools have increased by 27, including: 10 kindergartens, 9 primary schools, 5 secondary schools and the least number of high schools with 3 schools.

Three public high schools will be put into use in the next school year, including: Do Muoi High School, Phuc Thinh High School, and High School on Lot A11 - Cau Giay.

With three new public high schools coming into operation, the city will have 122 schools at this level next school year.

Do Muoi High School will be completed and put into use in the 2025-2026 school year.

In addition, the private school system increased by 16 schools, including 7 kindergartens, 4 primary schools, 5 secondary schools, and no high schools.

In terms of area, the old Hoang Mai district is home to 10 new schools of all levels. This is also a “hot spot” for enrollment in recent years, with the number of preschool and primary school students increasing rapidly but there are too few schools. In some years, parents even had to draw lots to get their children into public preschools.

In addition, the old Bac Tu Liem district also has 7 more schools; the old Cau Giay district has 4 more schools; the old Ha Dong district has 4 more schools.

According to the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, with the number of students increasing every year, the locality must build 30-35 new schools to meet learning needs and help reduce student numbers.

Besides facilities, Hanoi has also reviewed the teaching staff, to date there are 129,300 teachers teaching at all levels of public and private education.
