According to the prestigious Matichon newspaper, the official website of the 33rd SEA Games posted the schedule of sports competitions taking place on December 4. Here, all attention was focused on a serious mistake in the futsal event, when the organizing committee used the flag of the Thai futsal team as the Vietnamese national flag, while the Indonesian flag was replaced by the Lao flag.
The graphics of some other sports still have the correct national flag, but only futsal has a serious mistake. This mistake immediately caused a strong reaction from fans. Below, the home fans spoke up to remind and blame the image department of SEA Games 33 for being irresponsible and careless. Many comments also emphasized that with a large investment, SEA Games 33 has not opened but has left behind many flaws.
This is the second time in just over a month that Thailand has mistakenly used the Vietnamese flag. On October 28, when holding the draw ceremony for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal and 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal tournaments, Thailand attached the Chinese flag to the draw with the name of Vietnam. Afterwards, the vice president of the Thai Football Federation went to apologize to the Vietnamese side.

Immediately, the article about the wrong national flag of SEA Games 33 was deleted from the homepage, and the comments of fans also disappeared. But surely fans cannot help but have doubts about the communication work of SEA Games 33.
Yesterday (December 2), a series of Thai journalists had to complain because the process of issuing cards to the working team was too slow. The first competition took place on December 3 and the opening of the 33rd SEA Games on December 9, but at this time, many reporters and staff did not have access cards.
“After attending the opening ceremony of the live broadcast center and media center of the 33rd SEA Games, I can say that the coverage and media attention may not meet expectations. The reason is that many sports reporters have not yet received their cards to enter the competition venues,” said Panop Jaikua, Secretary General of the Thai Sports Journalists Association.
This delay directly affects media preparation and reporting plans. He called on relevant parties to speed up the clarification and resolution of the card issue.
“If this core issue is not addressed promptly, the coverage will be inadequate and the SEA Games may not receive the attention and public relations success that is expected. As a representative of sports journalists, I emphasize and call on the organizing committee to urgently address these outstanding issues seriously,” he added.
