"The entire plan for the SEA Games opening and closing ceremonies was implemented for 7 months, then canceled at the last minute, causing chaos," reported Thailand's Matichon newspaper.
And the person who shared this story is Mr. Rueangrith Suntisuk, who said he was invited to be the director of the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games.
"I had been planning the opening and closing ceremonies of the SEA Games for seven months. Then all my work was canceled, and a new team was formed in mid-October," Matichon newspaper quoted Mr. Suntisuk.
According to this director, his team received an invitation to join the SEA Games organizing committee at the beginning of the year, and started working from March.
"We were struggling with a tight budget. Some changes were made to accommodate the circumstances. That's okay, we still had fun working.
But in September, when the new government leaders took office, we got a call that a new, larger delegation had come and met with the old senior executives, and we were being replaced.
People like us have worked for months and then got nothing when things changed at the last minute," director Suntisuk was upset.
In a post on social media, director Suntisuk criticized the inconsistent working style of the country's organizing committee.
He said he "didn't suffer any business losses, but he spent too much time on creative work, and got nothing in return."
This is just one of many problems that have plagued the Thai hosts over the past few days, from the country flags on their official website to confusing announcements that were made - and then... retracted.
But recent revelations from director Suntisuk have also partly reflected the reason why host country Thailand allowed chaos to occur in the organization, when they went through many last-minute changes.
Changes in the organizing teams in many aspects, from ceremonies to event logistics, matches, and venue management, have caused the 33rd SEA Games to open in a controversial way.
In just 3 days, Thailand had a flag problem on its official website, sent out a confusing announcement, had a national anthem problem... and a series of other delays at the 33rd SEA Games.
