Hanoi: Rain has decreased, many schools welcome students back

Based on the forecast bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting as well as actual weather, traffic conditions, and facilities, on the morning of October 8, a number of high schools in the city announced that they would welcome students back to school in person.

According to the announcement at 5:50 am on October 8th of Doan Ket - Hai Ba Trung High School (Bach Mai Ward), the school organized for students to study directly at school. Homeroom teachers fully informed parents and students. Families of students who were still flooded and could not go to school were informed to homeroom teachers for synthesis; subject teachers will supplement knowledge for students.

Nguyen Du Secondary School (Dai Mo Ward) also welcomed students back to school in person from the morning of October 8, after surveying some locations around the school and neighboring areas, it was found that the water had receded, there was no flooding, it was still raining but it had gradually decreased. Chuong Duong Secondary School (Hong Ha Ward) also welcomed students back to school to study normally after 2 days of online teaching.

Over the past few days, many areas of Hanoi have been affected by heavy rains causing localized flooding, but in Xuan Mai commune, schools have maintained normal teaching. Only Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School had to implement a combined form of in-person and online teaching due to some flooded areas causing difficulties in transportation. By the morning of October 8, all 3 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in the area had organized in-person teaching for students.

Teacher Nguyen Ba Thang, Principal of Nam Phuong Tien A Secondary School, stated that there was basically no flooding in the area and traffic conditions were normal. Therefore, the school monitored the water levels of the Tich and Bui rivers to prevent flooding, while organizing normal teaching and learning, ensuring the safety of teachers and students.

Principal of Nam Phuong Tien Kindergarten Do Thi Thanh Tam also said that picking up children to go to class is still normal, without having to go to other schools like many previous floods. "We are still closely monitoring the water situation on the rivers to have a prepared response plan. If flooding returns, the school will pick up children at another school higher up," Ms. Do Thi Thanh Tam informed.

With favorable traffic conditions, Da Ton Primary School (Bat Trang Commune) still organizes direct teaching for students. Ms. Truong Thi Van Anh, Vice Principal of the school informed that, in addition to closely following the instructions of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training as well as the commune government, the school has carefully reviewed the travel conditions and the situation of the families to make flexible decisions.

On the morning of October 8, many schools continued to teach online due to unsatisfactory conditions. Doan Thi Diem High School (Co Nhue Ward) sent a notice to all parents about continuing to let students study online because some roads around the school were still deeply flooded. The school also announced that the mid-term exam schedule for the first semester would be postponed to next week. Yen Hoa High School (Yen Hoa Ward) informed students before 6:00 a.m. on October 8 to continue studying online.

Some schools in Nghia Do ward also continued to implement online learning on the morning of October 8 to ensure the safety of teachers and students, and have more time to prepare for boarding work. Nghia Do Primary School announced that on October 8, the school will continue to teach online. The school reminded parents to cooperate in preparing full learning equipment, and at the same time monitor and encourage their children to study seriously to maintain discipline. The school also reminded parents to closely follow the announcements from homeroom teachers and the school, and update promptly if there are any changes in the form of learning. Nghia Tan Secondary School sent a notice that due to local flooding, to ensure the safety of students and teachers, the school will continue to maintain online teaching.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training reminds school principals to continue to closely monitor weather forecasts; based on actual weather developments in the area, physical conditions and traffic safety to proactively decide on the form of teaching and learning.
