Hanoi: Schools may suspend classes if air pollution is severe

Schools will restrict outdoor activities for students during hours and days when air quality is at "Poor" or higher. In cases of severe air pollution, schools will suspend or adjust working and learning hours.

The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued Official Dispatch No. 6356/UBND-NNMT dated December 1, 2025 on strengthening urgent measures to control air pollution in the city.

In the Official Dispatch, the City People's Committee requested the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to notify and instruct schools to limit outdoor activities for students during hours and days when air quality is at "Bad" level or higher.

In case of serious air pollution (VN_AQI index ≥ 301), the Hanoi Department of Education and Training needs to direct schools to temporarily suspend or adjust working and studying hours.

The City People's Committee also requested functional agencies to synchronously implement measures to reduce waste causing environmental pollution; manage environmental quality, and control air pollution in the city.
