The southern area of Ho Chi Minh City is entering a period of strong transformation with a series of large-scale traffic infrastructure projects, with a total investment capital of up to tens of thousands of billions of VND. These projects, expected to be implemented and completed between now and 2027, are expected to completely resolve traffic congestion, enhance inter-regional connectivity and create a new, more modern urban appearance.
Inter-regional and gateway connectivity projects
These projects not only serve the needs of inner-city travel but also act as important commercial gateways of the city.
Binh Khanh Bridge and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway
Binh Khanh Bridge is one of the two largest cable-stayed bridges on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, connecting Nha Be and Can Gio districts. With a total investment of more than VND2,800 billion, the bridge is 2.76 km long, 21.75 m wide for four lanes. The project has a clearance of 55 m, the highest in Vietnam, ensuring the circulation of large ships. Currently, the project has reached 99% progress and is nearing completion, contributing to the completion of the Southern expressway network.

Can Gio Bridge
The Can Gio Bridge project across the Soai Rap River, connecting Can Gio district with the city center, has a total estimated investment of more than 10,500 billion VND. The bridge will replace the currently overloaded Binh Khanh ferry, significantly shortening travel time. This project is of strategic significance, paving the way for the development of a coastal urban area and an international transit port in Can Gio. Construction is expected to start in 2026.

Expanding National Highway 50
The National Highway 50 expansion project, through Binh Chanh district, has a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND. The nearly 7 km long road will be expanded to 34 m for 6 lanes. This project helps strengthen the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Long An province and the Western provinces. Currently, the parallel section has been put into use and the entire project is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2025.

Solving inner-city traffic congestion
A series of new bridges and roads were built to reduce the load on existing roads, which are often congested during rush hour.
Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road
With a total capital of 3,700 billion VND, the Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project will build a new connecting axis between District 7, District 4 and District 1. The project has a total length of nearly 5 km, starting from D1 Street (Him Lam area, District 7), crossing Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal to connect to Vo Van Kiet Street (District 1). The project is expected to significantly reduce traffic pressure on Kenh Te Bridge and surrounding areas, and is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of this year.

Thu Thiem Bridge 4
Thu Thiem 4 Bridge will connect Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) with District 7, crossing the Saigon River. The project has a total length of 2.16 km, a scale of 6 lanes, with a total estimated investment of 4,365 to 8,953 billion VND. When completed, the bridge will create a new connection between the two most dynamically developing urban areas of the city. Construction is expected to start in 2026.

Expanding the North-South axis (Nguyen Huu Tho street)
Nguyen Huu Tho Street will be upgraded with the construction of a 7.2 km long elevated road, from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. The project has a total capital of nearly 9,900 billion VND, with a scale of 4 elevated lanes and parallel roads on both sides. The project will solve the serious traffic congestion on this arterial road, expected to start construction in 2026.
Binh Tien Bridge and Road
The 3.66 km long Binh Tien Bridge and Road Project will connect District 6 and District 8 with Binh Chanh District (Nguyen Van Linh intersection). With a total cost of nearly VND 6,300 billion, the project is a key project to help reduce the load on existing roads and promote urban development in the Southwest region. Construction is expected to start in 2026.
Upgrading infrastructure and improving the urban environment
Besides large projects, the city also focuses on improving civil works and the environment, improving the quality of life for people.
Double Canal Renovation
The project of dredging, building infrastructure, and improving the environment of the northern bank of the Doi Canal (District 8) has a total investment of more than 7,300 billion VND from the budget. The project includes construction of embankments, bridges, technical infrastructure and water ports, not only to prevent flooding, improve environmental sanitation but also to beautify the urban area, changing the face of the area.
Construction of new Rach Tom and Rach Doi bridges
On Le Van Luong Street (Nha Be District), two old iron bridges, Rach Tom and Rach Doi, will be replaced by reinforced concrete bridges. The new Rach Tom Bridge (capital of 500 billion VND) has started construction. The new Rach Doi Bridge (capital of nearly 800 billion VND) is expected to start construction at the end of this year. The construction of these two new bridges will remove bottlenecks and ensure traffic safety on the route connecting Nha Be with Long An.
