On October 27th, Mr. Nguyen Minh, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, announced that the province will begin construction of two multi-level boarding schools in Quang Truc and Thuan An communes on November 2nd, 2025. These are two of the five border communes in the province prioritized for investment in educational infrastructure, aiming for sustainable development in the border region.
Accelerate land clearance.
According to the plan, the Quang Truc Commune Inter-level Primary and Secondary Boarding School will be built on land adjacent to the 726th Regiment Medical Clinic (Bon Bu Dar). The project will have 30 classrooms with approximately 1,050 students, and a total investment of over 215 billion VND.
The construction site is located near the center of the commune, adjacent to National Highway 14C, making it convenient for transportation and student life. This area borders the villages of Bu Dăr, Bu Prăng 1A, Bu Nung, Bu Sóp, Bu Gia, and Bu Prăng IIA, which are home to a large concentration of ethnic minorities. The land use plan is consistent with the plan approved by the People's Committee of Dak Nong province in Decision No. 938/QD-UBND dated June 27, 2025.
Currently, seven households are cultivating the land, and approximately 4.2 hectares need to be cleared. Mr. Nguyen Van Anh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Truc commune, said that the local authorities are actively promoting and encouraging residents to hand over the land as soon as possible so that the project can start on schedule.

In Thuan An commune, the boarding school for primary and secondary levels is of a similar scale: 30 classrooms, 1,050 students, and a total investment of over 225 billion VND. The chosen land is in Dak Thuy village, initially 2.6 hectares managed by the commune and already planned as educational land, with the potential to expand to 5 hectares.
However, to ensure the school meets the required standards, the local authorities need to expand by an additional 2.4 hectares of adjacent land, while also adjusting the land use plan and carrying out land acquisition and clearance according to regulations.
Improving the school system in border areas.
Lam Dong province currently has five border communes: Quang Truc, Tuy Duc, Thuan Hanh, Thuan An, and Dak Wil. These communes were established after the reorganization of administrative units from the former Dak Nong province.
Most of these border communes are classified as extremely disadvantaged, with high poverty rates, weak transportation infrastructure, and scattered populations. Consequently, educational opportunities for children of ethnic minorities are limited.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Education and Training, although the percentage of children of school age attending school in border communes is quite high, the complex mountainous terrain and long distances make it difficult for students to get to school. Many children have to drop out of school midway due to the distance from home or because their families cannot afford to send them to boarding school.
Currently, the entire border region has 47 educational institutions, including 39 public schools and 5 private schools, but only one boarding school for ethnic minorities (secondary and high school levels). The majority of ethnic minority students still have to study at scattered school locations with limited facilities; many classrooms are dilapidated and lack teaching equipment.
Furthermore, border communes are also facing a shortage of secondary school teachers compared to the standard of 1.9 teachers per class. Teacher recruitment is difficult due to limited staffing, low salaries, and a lack of sufficiently attractive policies, while the shortage of official housing fails to create a sense of security and long-term commitment for teachers.

According to the leaders of the Lam Dong Department of Education and Training, building multi-level boarding schools in border areas not only solves the problem of school shortages but also contributes to raising the intellectual level of the population, retaining students in school, and creating opportunities for children of ethnic minorities to study in a better environment.
The new schools are equipped with modern and friendly facilities, including classrooms, dormitories, cafeterias, sports facilities, and libraries. Students from remote areas are provided with boarding facilities, helping to reduce dropout rates and improve the overall quality of education.
In addition to the two projects in Quang Truc and Thuan An that commenced in early November 2025, the province will continue to implement the construction of the remaining boarding schools in border communes during the 2025-2027 period, aiming to complete the education network in border areas, meet the requirements of socio-economic development and ensure national border security.
