Hearing the news that they will soon receive support for breeding cows from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021 - 2026 (abbreviated as the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program), the family of Mr. Phan Thanh Nghi (67 years old) and Mrs. Phan Thi Ly (61 years old) in Bac Son village was very excited. In recent days, although their whole bodies were aching due to the change in weather, the elderly couple still took the time to take care of the banana garden, plant more rows of sweet potatoes, and clean the barn to prepare to receive breeding cows.
Mr. Phan Thanh Nghi shared: “I myself had a traffic accident and broke my cervical vertebrae 16 years ago. I am a social security beneficiary, and I have to rely on my wife for all the heavy work, so life is very difficult. In previous years, my family raised cows, but more than a year ago, we were in such dire straits that we had to sell them. Now, with the support of the 2025 Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program for breeding cows (worth nearly 13 million VND), my wife and I are very happy and determined to take good care of this animal to earn more income.”

Also in Bac Son village, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (65 years old) and Mrs. Le Thi Tiu (68 years old) have been poor and near-poor for many years because he suffered a stroke and she was often sick and no longer able to work. With the desire to help them ease their difficulties, in 2023, the local government and relevant agencies considered supporting a breeding cow worth 10 million VND from the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program. Thanks to good care, the cow has now given birth to 2 more calves that have been fattened and sold for tens of millions of VND.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nga - Secretary of Bac Son village Party Cell informed: "In recent years, the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program has supported cows for 20 households and chickens for 4 households. These livestock are very meaningful to poor and near-poor households in increasing their income. With the "support" from these meaningful livelihood models, more than 30 households in the village have escaped poverty."

Not only Bac Son village, but in the past 4 years, hundreds of poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households in Mai Phu commune have been supported with chickens and cows for livelihood to open a way out of poverty.
In addition to the funding provided directly from the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program, the locality has also integrated and called on kind-hearted people to support 9 models worth 740 million VND. This not only affirms the care and concern of the Party, State and locality but also demonstrates the sense of responsibility of the whole community towards disadvantaged families and lives that need to be shared.

Ms. Le Thi Duyen - an expert of the Economic Department of Mai Phu Commune said: In recent years, the sub-project on livelihood support under the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program has been implemented responsibly, promptly, to the right target, and effectively in the area. Thereby, it has made an important contribution in providing more resources, experience, business thinking and spiritual encouragement to poor and near-poor households so that they can gradually improve their lives.
“Building on the results achieved, in about 10 days we will continue to support 26 cow models (about 12-13 million VND/head) and 55 chicken models (50 chickens/model) with a total value of 741 million VND for poor households. We are currently rushing to complete all types of documents, encouraging beneficiaries to clean their barns, coordinate with the seed supplier to vaccinate and check the breed... to ensure the safety of the models and promote their effectiveness,” Ms. Le Thi Duyen added.
