The family of Mr. Pham Cong Thuc (born in 1979, residing in My Yen village, Cam My commune, old Cam Xuyen district, now My Yen village, Cam Due commune, Ha Tinh province) has nearly 6,000 4-year-old acacia trees planted about 300m from Doc Mieu spillway of Ke Go lake. Although the acacia is about to be harvested, what worries Mr. Thuc is that the land at Doc Mieu spillway has been seriously eroded, sweeping away many acacia areas.

According to Mr. Thuc, many years ago, the flow from the flood discharge of Ke Go Lake through Doc Mieu spillway was changed, causing landslides in the lower spillway area to begin. Over the years, the landslides have become more serious and gradually "eaten deep" into the land where people grow acacia.

“The landslides were not alarming at first, but after each large flood discharge from Ke Go Lake, in 2020, Ke Go Lake discharged 1,000 m3 /second, causing many areas of land and acacia trees in the downstream area of Doc Mieu to be greatly affected,” Mr. Pham Cong Thuc shared.

During the heavy rain from October 28 to November 4, 2025, Ke Go reservoir overflowed with a maximum flow rate of 550 m3 /second. Although the discharge level was not too large, the overflow, along with prolonged heavy rain and high tides, also caused flooding in downstream residential areas. Along with that, many areas of land downstream of Doc Mieu overflow continued to erode.

According to the reporter of Ha Tinh Newspaper and Radio and Television, the landslide area at Ke Go Lake spillway is about 700m long. From the landslide point to the abyss - where the water flows from Doc Mieu spillway before pouring into Ngan Mo River, some places have been "gouged" from 25 - 30m. The landslide caused many areas of land and trees to drift away with the water.

Cracks and landslides in the lower spillway of Ke Go Lake stretch hundreds of meters long, deep into the mainland, with some landslides up to 30 meters wide.

People are worried as the landslide situation is getting more and more serious, especially during the rainy season and when Ke Go Lake overflows.

Local people hope that authorities at all levels will soon have solutions to prevent landslides in the lower area of Ke Go lake, protect land and crops, and should consider and study the construction of concrete embankments.

Recently, the local government has also implemented many solutions to reinforce and limit landslides. However, due to the large volume and limited resources of the commune, support from higher levels is needed.

According to the Head of the Economic Department of Cam Due commune, for landslides in the lower spillway of Ke Go lake, the construction of embankments, although costly, will prevent landslides in the long run.
