Farmers are excited because mangoes have good prices.

In recent years, mango has become one of the main fruit trees in the Mekong Delta, bringing high economic value. Since the beginning of October, mango growers have been even more excited as mango prices have been on the rise, from 2,000 - 10,000 VND/kg depending on the type compared to last month.

In An Giang , traders are currently purchasing Taiwanese and Chinese green-skinned mangoes, grade 1, for 12,000 to 15,000 VND/kg; grade 2 for 6,000 to 8,000 VND/kg. Keo mangoes are also sold for 10,000 to 12,000 VND/kg. For households that are linked to businesses, cooperatives, etc., the selling price can be 10 to 20% higher than the market price. The reason for the price increase is that it is currently the off-season, mango output has decreased compared to the first months of the year, leading to a shortage of supply in the market, while the demand for domestic consumption and export has increased.

The journey of mango from the garden to the world

About 140,000 hectares of mango, output of 1.5 million tons, export turnover increased to 650 million USD - this is the target set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for Vietnam by 2030. To realize this goal, Vietnamese mangoes not only need quantity, but also need to ensure quality, meeting the increasingly strict standards of domestic and foreign markets.

In just over ten days, nearly 1 hectare of mangoes of Mr. Phuoc will be harvested for export to Korea. This year, the fruit set rate is good, and the mangoes are also priced well, making him very happy.

Mr. Dang Van Phuoc - Cu Lao Gieng Commune, An Giang Province said: "Compared to previous years, the price is high. The good price of mangoes also helps people. With the current price, after deducting expenses, there is still a profit of about 50%".

Currently, most of the mango output in the Mekong Delta is mainly for export.

Currently, the majority of mango production in the Mekong Delta is mainly for export. However, to be able to sell in this segment, farmers must first produce according to standards such as VietGap and GlobalGap. From the stage of handling when flowering, fruit bagging, and then post-harvest preservation, all processes must be strictly followed.

Mr. Le Thanh Tung - Cao Lanh Ward, Dong Thap Province shared: "The garden is clean, watered with pesticides, knows when to quarantine, and watered with pesticides according to the list. There must be a place to handle pesticides. The packaging must be brought to the reservoir and burned."

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien - Director of Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative, An Giang province commented: "The standard to reach the export market is to have no pesticide residues and banned substances that the market requires us not to use. The cooperative will eliminate them from the process to ensure the requirements of importing countries."

Mr. Tran Thanh Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province commented: "We will also cooperate with businesses to carry out connections and have standards and regulations to implement for farmers to follow. Currently, the work of tracing origin and connecting markets needs to be more transparent."

The Mekong Delta currently has nearly 2,000 hectares of mangoes certified by VietGap and GlobalGAP. In addition to exporting to China, our country also supplies to demanding markets such as the US, Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand... Expanding the consumption market not only contributes to affirming the value of mangoes from the Delta, but also contributes to increasing the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover.

Increasing added value for mangoes

It can be affirmed that Vietnamese mangoes are increasingly gaining a foothold in the world market. However, 80-90% of mangoes sold on the market today are mainly fresh fruits. This is what makes Vietnamese mangoes always unstable in price and output. Therefore, how to make mangoes not only delicious but also bring more sustainable value - that is the direction that many businesses are pursuing.

Mr. Huynh Huu Loc - Director of Hoa Loc RR Mango Company said: "Freezing can preserve for at least 6 months to a year, to overcome the barrier of transportation time, secondly is off-season use".

Mr. Tran Thanh Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province commented: "We participate in deep processing, the value of the agricultural sector does not stop at the stage of fresh products, but is many times higher than the value brought. Therefore, the agricultural sector is inviting all businesses to come to An Giang to invest. And we always listen to create the best conditions for businesses to carry out deep processing".

Mr. Huynh Thanh Hiep - Director of Nam Huy Company, Dong Thap province commented: "There needs to be more support from local authorities in purchasing advanced machinery and equipment or acting as a bridge for businesses to combine with growing areas."
