Meaningful "Green Sunday"
In mid-July, member Tran Minh Thang (Thuy Xuan ward) showed up early at the local Martyrs Cemetery to participate in the cleaning. According to Minh Thang, this is an annual activity whenever major holidays and anniversaries take place.
“This time it is even more meaningful as it takes place on July 27; thereby showing the responsibility and gratitude of the younger generation towards the previous generation,” Minh Thang shared.
The activity is within the framework of the launching ceremony of the "Green Sunday" movement in response to the operation of the 2-level local government model and the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), organized by Hue City Youth Union in Thuy Xuan ward.
The Youth Union of 40 communes and wards in the city also simultaneously launched "Green Sunday" with many meaningful works and tasks: Launching to ensure environmental sanitation; cleaning public areas, renovating memorials and martyrs' cemeteries; collecting and treating waste, eliminating black spots of waste; planting, caring for and protecting trees; promoting waste classification at source; launching a campaign to limit plastic waste...
Not only limited to “Green Sunday”, on this occasion, 100% of officers and employees of Viettel units in the city coordinated with the Youth Union of localities to simultaneously replace more than 12,000 bunches of silk lotus flowers and nearly 600 flower vases at the Martyrs’ Cemeteries. At the same time, they cleaned and beautified the campus; offered incense and flowers at the Memorial and Martyrs’ Cemeteries.
Practical actions
According to information from the Hue City Youth Union, on the occasion of July 27 this year, the unit directed grassroots Youth Union organizations to simultaneously implement activities of visiting, giving gifts of gratitude and organizing "Warm and loving reunion meals" at the families of people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of people with revolutionary contributions. At the same time, from July 24 to 26, candle lighting ceremonies to pay tribute to heroic martyrs were also held at all cemeteries and monuments, monuments and martyrs' memorial houses throughout the city.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City - Secretary of the City Youth Union Nguyen Thanh Hoai informed that the highlight of this year is the coordination with the City Department of Home Affairs, Hue Newspaper, Radio and Television Youth Union to review, draw portraits and visit and give gifts to 18 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in the localities.
The program "Lighting the fire of tradition - Forever shining faith" and art performance to celebrate the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025) were also held at Phu Vang Martyrs Cemetery with activities such as: Offering incense, lighting candles in gratitude; lighting torches to fuel the fire of tradition for the younger generation; giving gifts to families with preferential policies and granting scholarships to students in difficult circumstances...
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City - Secretary of the City Youth Union, said that the goal of the activities is to propagate and help union members and young people understand the meaning of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", "Repaying gratitude" to the generation of fathers and brothers who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland. Thereby, strengthening the education of revolutionary traditions, patriotism, and national pride for the young generation in the current period. At the same time, enhancing the responsibility and role of young people in taking care of people with meritorious services to the revolution, policy families, war invalids, and families of martyrs.
