"Green Sunday" has meaning

In mid-July, Tran Minh Thang, a member of the Youth Union from Thuy Xuan ward, arrived early at the local Martyrs' Cemetery to participate in cleaning activities. According to Minh Thang, this is an annual activity whenever major holidays or anniversaries occur.

"This occasion is even more meaningful as it takes place on July 27th; it demonstrates the responsibility and gratitude of the younger generation towards their predecessors," Minh Thắng shared.

The activity was part of the simultaneous launch ceremony of the "Green Sunday" movement, in response to the operation of the two-tiered local government model and to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), organized by the Hue City Youth Union in Thuy Xuan ward.

Youth Unions in 40 communes and wards across the city also simultaneously launched the "Green Sunday" campaign with many meaningful projects and activities: ensuring environmental hygiene; cleaning public spaces, beautifying memorials and martyrs' cemeteries; collecting and processing waste, eliminating waste hotspots; planting, caring for and protecting trees; promoting waste sorting at source; launching campaigns to reduce plastic waste...

Not limited to just "Green Sunday," this occasion saw 100% of Viettel's staff and employees across the city, in coordination with local Youth Unions, simultaneously participate in replacing over 12,000 silk lotus flower bouquets and nearly 600 flower vases at Martyrs' Cemeteries. They also cleaned and beautified the grounds, and offered incense and flowers at the Memorial Monument and Martyrs' Cemetery.

Practical actions

According to information from the Hue City Youth Union, this year, on the occasion of July 27th, the unit directed its grassroots Youth Union organizations to simultaneously carry out activities such as visiting, giving gifts of gratitude, and organizing "Warm and loving family meals" at the homes of those who rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives. At the same time, from July 24th to 26th, a candle-lighting ceremony to honor the Heroes and Martyrs was also held at all cemeteries and memorials throughout the city.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hoai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City and Secretary of the City Youth Union, the highlight of this year's activities is the coordination with the City Department of Internal Affairs and the Youth Union of Hue Newspaper, Radio and Television to review, paint portraits, and visit and present gifts to express gratitude to 18 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in various localities.

The program "Igniting the Flame of Tradition - Keeping the Faith Alive" and artistic performances commemorating the 78th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025) were also held at Phu Vang Martyrs' Cemetery with activities such as: Offering incense and lighting candles in gratitude; lighting torches to pass on the flame of tradition to the younger generation; giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and awarding scholarships to students in difficult circumstances…

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City and Secretary of the City Youth Union, said that the goal of the activities is to raise awareness among union members and young people about the significance of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs and the moral principle of "Drinking water, remembering the source," and "Showing gratitude" to the older generation who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, building and protecting the Fatherland. Through this, the aim is to strengthen the education of revolutionary traditions, patriotism, and national pride for the younger generation in the current period. At the same time, it aims to enhance the responsibility and role of young people in caring for those who have rendered meritorious service to the revolution, policy beneficiaries, war invalids, and families of martyrs.
