Visiting Phu Du village, walking along the lush, flower-lined paths maintained by the women's self-managed community, one can feel the peaceful and clean atmosphere of the countryside. This is the result of the meticulous care of the women in the village every week and month, especially the pioneering role of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc. In 2020, the Phu Du Village Women's Association was selected as a model "Waste-Free Residential Area" associated with the women's implementation of sorting and processing organic waste using the IMO microbial method.

Women in Phu Du village carry out the steps in making IMO probiotics. |
After attending a training course organized by the Gia Binh (formerly) District Women's Union in collaboration with the Vietnam Organic Association on how to make probiotics, Ms. Ngoc researched and developed her first probiotic product. She applied it to her family's waste, then used it to fertilize plants. Seeing its positive effects on crops and its ability to reduce waste in the environment, Ms. Ngoc shared the method with all the women's union members. Ms. Ngoc said: "Probiotics are very easy to make, mainly using readily available ingredients at home such as bananas, sugar, rice bran, yogurt, and clean water. After fermenting for 15 days, the finished product is used to fertilize waste to deodorize it and to fertilize plants, vegetables, and fruits to help them grow well."
Having successfully implemented the initiative at home, Ms. Ngoc, along with the Executive Committee of the Women's Association of the village, selected three road sections with 60 participating households as pilot sites for waste sorting. The women proceeded to sort and process organic waste right at their households using IMO microbial preparations, transforming waste into fertilizer to care for the flowerbeds and vegetable plots in their home gardens. As a result, thousands of meters of vibrant flowerbeds run throughout the village, waste is processed, and the living space of the countryside becomes brighter, greener, cleaner, and more beautiful.
To date, the Women's Association of Phu Du village has successfully mobilized 100% of households in the residential area to sort waste at source. Hundreds of households participate in sorting and processing organic waste using IMO microbial technology at home; applying IMO microbial enzymes to treat ponds, lakes, and livestock pens. Most families are equipped with the techniques to process organic waste at home and utilize the resulting products for applications in farming and livestock raising, such as treating fish ponds, pens, and watering plants. This saves on the cost of purchasing biological enzymes and inorganic fertilizers, and significantly improves the living environment. In recognition of these contributions, in early October, Ms. Ngoc was one of two exemplary individuals honored at the National Emulation Congress organized by the Central Vietnam Women's Union.
