AFP news agency quoted a statement from the French President's office dated June 25 stating: "President Zelensky will be present at the opening ceremony of the conference to discuss Ukraine and, in particular, the topic of security commitments."
According to European officials, EU members have approved an agreement on security guarantees and will sign it on June 27. Like other security agreements that Ukraine has signed, this EU document aims to strengthen future support for the conflict-ridden nation.
A draft obtained by AFP indicates that the EU will consider continuing to finance arms supplies to Kyiv, continuing training for the Ukrainian army, and strengthening efforts to bolster the country's defense industry. However, there are no specific commitments regarding new EU aid.
The French President's office noted that the EU has collective security commitments to support Kyiv, in addition to bilateral agreements between some member states and Ukraine.
Also on June 25, the EU extended the right of Ukrainian refugees to remain in the bloc for another year, until March 2026.
Currently, around 4.2 million Ukrainians are registered as refugees across the EU, with Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic having the largest numbers.
Belgian Minister of State for Refugees and Migration Nicole de Moor affirmed that those wishing to evacuate from the conflict in Ukraine can continue to count on the solidarity of the EU.
Those granted temporary protection also have the same rights as the EU, including residence permits, access to the labor market and housing, healthcare support, social welfare, and access to education .
