Sam Van Doi suffered an injury and had to walk to the finish line in the 1,500m event. |
While all the cameras focused on the home athlete with the gold medal, Sam Van Doi quietly stumbled to the finish line. He was the last to complete the race, without a medal or ranking. But what moved the viewers was how this athlete did not give up even though his body could barely keep up.
This is the first time the young man from Cao Bang has earned a ticket to the SEA Games, wearing the national team jersey at a regional tournament. This means countless hours of training, sweating on sparsely populated tracks, and a burning desire to prove himself in the Vietnamese national team's colors.
Entering the final, Van Doi competed valiantly but suffered an injury, making each step a heavy burden. Despite this, he didn't give up. The pain was evident on his face, but his determination to not quit carried Van Doi across the finish line, before he collapsed on the track, gasping for breath.
Van Doi's moment showcased true sportsmanship with perseverance, resilience, and self-respect. Van Doi left a lasting impression with the beautiful image of a warrior. He received much praise for his effort until the very last second.
Also in the men's 1,500m final, Luong Duc Phuoc finished third with a time of 3 minutes 50 seconds 13, demonstrating the high form of the Vietnamese runner. This time was even 4 seconds faster than the time that helped him win the gold medal at the SEA Games 31.
