To support people in areas affected by super typhoon Yagi , the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Vietnam has provided cash and housing reconstruction for ethnic minority households, with the total value of aid to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and technical assistance projects estimated at about 5 million USD; emergency relief goods: more than 80 tons, worth about 449,000 USD; training commune/village officials on disaster risk management...

Of which, the aid worth 1 million USD is sponsored by the Korean government, to help beneficiary households gradually restore and stabilize their lives after natural disasters in 5 provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang , Ha Giang and Hai Phong.

By the end of April 2025, IOM had synchronously deployed emergency support and disaster recovery activities, such as distributing essential hygiene kits to 1,200 households (over 5,000 people) in the three provinces of Yen Bai, Cao Bang and Ha Giang ; distributing multi-purpose cash to nearly 600 beneficiary households (equivalent to 1,611 people) in Hai Phong to stabilize their lives and restore their livelihoods with a total value of nearly 1.6 billion VND; and supporting the repair and construction of damaged housing for 175 households in the three districts of Bac Ha, Bao Yen and Bat Xat, Lao Cai province, with a total support of more than 10 billion VND.

As part of a series of support activities, on May 9, 2025, a working delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention, the IOM delegation in Vietnam and leaders of Lao Cai province visited households receiving support to build new houses in Nam Khanh commune, Bac Ha, Lao Cai province.

It is known that Typhoon Yagi and floods caused severe damage in the province, causing 955 houses to be completely damaged, 688 houses to be very severely damaged, 1,308 houses to be severely damaged and 5,709 houses to be partially damaged.

Accordingly, IOM aid supported 205 households in Bao Yen, Bat Xat, Bac Ha, with a total budget of more than 500,000 USD. Of which, the number of households benefiting in Bao Yen is 42 households, Bat Xat has 81 households and Bac Ha has 52 households. In Bac Ha, especially in Nam Khanh village, Nam Khanh commune, the project has helped Dao and Nung ethnic households who are near-poor and at high risk of landslides, with support from 60 million to 80 million VND/household to relocate and rebuild solid houses.

Also during this working trip, the delegation inspected the embankment project to prevent landslides on the Red River bank (phase 2) in Xuan Tang ward, Lao Cai city and the progress of overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and post-storm floods.
