Completion of underground coastal protection dyke voted most beautiful in Asia

(Dan Tri) - The 550m long underground dike, 250-300m from the shore, with the task of preventing landslides on An Bang beach, Cam An ward (Hoi An city, Quang Nam ) has been completed and put into use before this year's storm season.
Quang Nam provincial authorities inspected the quality management of the underground dike project in the An Bang coastal area, Cam An ward, Hoi An city. Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, a representative of the Quang Nam Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Works (investor) said that the underground dike protecting the An Bang coastal area, Cam An ward was built using Dutch technology, with an investment capital of 210 billion VND. The foot of the dike is built with haro blocks (a type of precast concrete block without steel, designed to cover the surface, protect protective structures such as river dikes, breakwaters and shore protection structures), the top of the dike is low, submerged under the sea level, with the task of breaking waves from a distance, limiting the direct impact of sea waves. To build the underground dike to protect the An Bang coast, the construction unit used 3,900 haro blocks, each weighing 5 tons, more than 52,000m3 of stone to make the foot and body of the dike, and used nearly 620,000m3 of sand to regenerate and nourish the 1.4km long An Bang beach. "The completed project will contribute to preventing and combating erosion, regenerating the beach; gradually completing the system of works to prevent and combat erosion of Cua Dai beach, Hoi An city, contributing to mitigating damage caused by natural disasters and climate change, creating momentum for recovery and development of the local socio -economy", the investor representative shared. Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Dinh Tien Tai, in charge of project supervision consultant, said that the project ensured the progress committed by the contractor, by August 31 the project was completed, 3 months ahead of schedule. Regarding the project's effectiveness, Mr. Dinh Tien Tai said that following the Cua Dai Coast Emergency Erosion Prevention Project, the construction method of this project is a bit different from the previous project. Accordingly, the project poured 2.5 tons of rock inside to protect the dike body; while this project was constructed by laying 2-roof haro, creating a breakwater 250-300m from the shore. "Through the assessment of phases 1 and 2, the erosion is no longer serious. The entire length of the 2.3km beach has been pumped with sand to create a beach. According to the owner of a local tourist establishment, people are very happy that the government is interested in investing in recreating the beach that was once the most beautiful in Asia. People hope that the beach will no longer be eroded, so that tourism activities as well as people's lives will not be affected. Mr. Dinh Dung, Chairman of Cam An Ward People's Committee, said that putting the dike into use will limit underground waves from afar, limit erosion when there are big waves, protect residents' property, and at the same time create livelihoods for the community; attract visitors, especially international visitors to swim in the sea and experience other types of tourism services.
